25 BR brass?

I acquired several Stolle Panda barrels at an auction, mighty cheap. One is 25 BR. I'd like to try putting this barrel onto an action, but about the only thing I can find online about 25 BR is the post on the 6mmbr site about Darrell's 25 BR "Peppermint" rifle. Does anyone have any info about 25 BR? Where does one obtain brass for it, or what is it formed from? Are there any details about the cartridge anywhere? I also cannot find any dies in the usual places, not even CH4D.

Or is 25 BR just too obsolete/obscure to bother with? Maybe I should just rechamber it to some other .25 cal chamber. I wasn't looking to shoot matches with it; I just wanted to turn the barrel into something useful I could shoot.

You neck-up 6BR brass. Call Randy Robinett (BIB Bullets) for information on the 25BR. If you are interested, I have some Lapua brass ready to go.

Go to BR.Com and ask Jackie Schmidt. Jackie started his BR career shooting the 25BR. It shot very well, but he gave up on it because of lack of BR type bullets. I believe this was in about 1995. Mo betta boolits are probably available now.

The key is determine the twist rate of the barrel. The 25 BR is very forgiving in regards to tuning. Randy's has the bullets that will shoot fantastic if you have a good barrel.

As Butch noted, Jackie data got me started on the 25 BR and I now have four barrels that I shoot local and 600 yard IBS matches with.

Randy has also won a fair amount of fake wood with that 25 caliber. The optimal twist for Randy's 88 GR BT is 1:11. For the 110 GR BT - 1:9, and a 1:10 would work for both. As DJ has stated, the key to accuracy is the twist, and also the proper free-bore. The early experimenters were not using a suitable twist rate.

Back in the early '90's, when the SAKO 220 Russian brass was discontinued, many shooters switched to a 25 BR. Ted Parreco, Dick Grosbier and Rod Morton all used some form of a 25 BR. My friend Don "DJ" Jones moved the shoulder forward .070" and called it the 25 DJ. Jeff Fowler made some really good 85 Gr. match bullets and DJ made some good ones on Sierra jackets in Homer Culvers dies.
As soon as the Lapua 220 Russian showed up they all went back to the PPC.

Pick up a 25 caliber mandrel. One pass in a 6 BR case should get you brass. Load them long, stuff the bullets into the lands and when they go BANG, you've got formed brass.:D

Eddie- do you recall if Ted used the 25 BR in either of his two 250/25x performances?

I don't recall Ted ever shooting 25Xs. I remember he shot 24Xs 3 matches in a row at York. I don't remember if it was with the 25BR or the "long" PPC he, Rod and Dick all shot for a while.
