25/6.5x55 Swedish Mauser did him in...

Preacher, with a beard like that you should go by a handle like Prophet!!

Sweet buck, nice rifle, unique cartridge. Gotta love it

Not dual caliber, just a 6.5 x55 Swedish Mauser that was necked to 25 caliber......
That is an interesting cartridge. I'm a big .257 fan, have been for 39 years. But, I have never heard of any combination like this.

I actually thought you somehow hit the wrong keys and that was why I asked about the dual caliber.

6.5x55 Sweed's are very popular in Europe. I have one, their very accurate. In fact, I have several of them.

I prefer the 123 grain bullets in mine, fast, deadly, and accurate.

I'm also a 25 guy, and have a lot of different ones, and a 25/ 7mm SAUM Imp reamer on the way for next years deer...
A 25/47 Lapua, 250 Savage AI, 257 Roberts, 25/55 Swede, 25/284 Winchester, and the boomer when it gets here...

Nice collection of quarter bores, nice buck too!

I was disappointed when Winchester stopped at the .270 WSM and then went WSSM with .25, I'll be interested to see how the Saum does.

The 25/7mm RSAUM should prove awesome! Upon announcement of the 300WSM, I obtained a 25/300WSM reamer, which I have referred to as the 257IdiotMag: the RSAUM version will be slightly more efficient. Via the WSM version, my son-in-law and I run the 110 Gr. BT at an easily obtainable 3540 FPS (uncorrected, 15' velocity), as measured with an old, but reliable Oehler chronograph - pretty much a .257 Wby - it has proven excellent for deer, pronghorn, coyotes, etc. If one shoots a lot between huntin' seasons, the occasional new barrel may be needed, which helps keep things interesting!:DRG

Beautiful deer and a very nice rifle. I bet it's not far from what a 257 Robert's can do and the really nice thing about the 6.5x55 cartridge is that Lapua makes brass for it. Your idea to neck it down to 257 is very wise, probably perfect for deer, coyotes, and chucks. I only currently own a few 25-06 rifles but absolutely love the 257 bore, and have since killing my first whitetail buck in New York state many many years ago. It's high time for me to build another 257, thanks for the inspiration.

P.S. Just noticed this post is a bit older, but I don't care,it's gold just the same

Congratulations! Interesting cartridge idea. I have both 257 Roberts and 6.5x55 with Shillen barrels. Both great deer rifles, but I never though of combining them. Nice job.
