25-06 wby

Have one in 243 that shoots itty-bitty groups (that's a technical term ya know? ;) ). Put 4 90 gr AB inside of a business card at 500. I had a 7mm-08 in the basic grey stock that shot sub-1" consistently. Good guns and well made (by Howa in Japan). Bit on the heavy side and the stocks seem chunky to some folks. The one thing I liked about them is that most come with a 24" barrel, adds another 25-50 fps which isn't all bad.

View attachment 1079460 I have one I’ve had for several years now. The action is smooth and the stock feels good in my hands, not flimsy. The trigger was ok but I cut a round or two off the trigger spring and it’s now a little under 3 lbs and breaks clean. Its a full size rifle in that it weighs just over 9 lbs. with 3X12 Leupold scope and EGW base and has a 24” barrel.
With a couple of factory ammo’s and the factory pressure point it shot 1-1/12” groups at 100 yards. I probably could have found a better factory load but I planned on reloading for it anyway. Now it has been pillard and bedded and free floated. Shooting 85gn Nos. Bt’s, hornady 117gn btsp, and Berger 115s it shoots under moa. The bergers shoot the smallest at around 1/2”.
The only problem i have with the rifle, and it may not be a real problem at all , is that it doesnt like a clean bore. It usually take’s 5 or 6 fouling shots to get it to group consitantly. Back when I was doing load development this was an issue but now it is strictly a hunting gun so it stays in the safe “seasoned” and its ready to go.
I would defiantly recommend the S-2 line of rifles over the Howa’s simply because of the stock. I do not like that Houge overmolded stock. I also would not hesitate to own another S-2 rifle or build a semi custom off an action.
Hope this helps. E
