25-06 Sendero load reccomendations

If you put one of those 117 Sierra into the shoulder I can about guarantee that about 99% will drop in their tracks. Through the ribs I have never had a deer go over about 60 yards that I can think of and I have killed HUNDREDS. I did crop damage control for 15 years and have killed deer with about everything between a sharp stick and a 45-70 and there are not many combos that drops deer in their tracks like the 25-06 with lots of different bullets. Wishing you lots of luck this season.

PS. If you have a 308 Win. give 46 grs IMR 4895 with Nosler 125 Ballistic Tip a try. About as effective on deer as the 25-06.

And that 125 BT is about as accurate as anything you will find in the light bullet category for the .308.

I have been shooting 25-0 6s for 30 years and here is what I have learned.
They like to shoot well with loads right at max.
A few loads that have shot well in many, mine and friends, rifles are these.
52 grs IMR 4350, Rem case, CCI BR primer, 100 gr Sierra Game King or Nos. BT.

52 grs. H-4831, Rem case, CCI BR primer, 115 Nos. BT or Partition, 117 Sierra PH or GK, 117 Hornady Inter lock or SST.

The load that shoots best in my current custom barreled Rem 700, 26" Shilen #6 of which I have had for 25 years and has killed more deer than most people have even seen in their life time. I did crop damage control for 15 years in east NC.
49 grs IMR or AA 4350, Rem case, CCI 250, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter does 3000 fps and shoots bug holes. I have tried a bunch of different bullets and they all will kill well but for the price and accuracy and results on game it is hard to beat the old plane Jane 117 Sierra flat base Pro Hunter.

Yes, the 25-06 killing ability is way beyond what many people think.
It has been my practice to sight in my rifle 3 inches high at 100 yards. That gives me a point blank range of right at 350 yards where the bullet will not rise or fall below 5 inches. I place the cross hairs in the center of a deer's front shoulder and squeeze the trigger and 99.9% of the time they drop in their tracks.
Good info, except that the bullet never rises. It only falls and crosses the line of sight. The bullet starts to drop the minute that it leaves the barrel-gravity.

I also use the term of bullet rise and fall as well... even though we all know that it does not rise.... only crossing the line of sight. The rise and fall concept does give a good picture of the bullet staying on the deer's vitals.

Thanks to everyone on all the Great info on the 25-06 loads. I found 3 boxes of the Sierra 117gr Pro Hunter flat base and have them on the way, I have 2 boxes of Nosler 120gr Partition and 1 box of Nosler 120gr solid base, I only have about 1/2 pound of IMR 4350 left, and I haven't been able to find anymore, I was able to find a couple pounds of H4831 at a local gun shop, I was planning on staying with the IMR 4350 but I saw a lot of you use or have used the H4831 with Great results, so I am thinking about giving it a try and see how my Rem 700 CDL likes it.
Merry Christmas to All,
Brent

H4831 normally dont disappoint. Working with it a bit and seating depth will yield good results.

Perhaps I am the odd one I this group. My 25-06 Sendero was the first gun I purchased when I was a kid. My current load is
Nosler 100gn BT
39.5 grains of 4064
CCI BR-2
3.712 CBTO
this is about a .010 jump
RP cases.

I love this gun. After deer season, I want to get it bedded and recrowned.

Eastern NC? I live in Onslow County. I have a Sendero as my main deer gun and hunt from an old abandoned farm house that covers a field out to about 565 yards. I have been shooting the 100 BT Noslers, but I am thinking about switching to the Sierras. I measured about 20 Noslers and 20 Sierra Pro hunters and the Sierras where much more consistent base to ogive.

IMR 4350 frequently in & out of stock at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. If you have a brick & mortar store within reasonable distance to you, you can order online with free ship-to-store - no shipping fees or HazMat fees with that option.

Just got a used but near new 25-06 Remington 700 Sendero. I had some old factory varmint loads that I tried in it and they shot about 1/2 inch or so. I just put a Jewell trigger in as the Remington was 6 1/2 pounds from the factory for a heavy barreled varmint/deer gun. I was wondering if anybody had any pet loads. I was thinking of 100 grain BT by Nosler. I will use it for deer and Antelope and will not shoot over 600 yards or so.
Try using a Sierra 100 gr smk with a CCI-200 primer with 52.5gr of RL19
3 shots at 200 yards it’s a sweet load .

I see no one has mentioned the Speer 120SPBT so I will. Its got a BC of .485 according to Speer. Is plenty accurate for deer sized game. Its been a great bullet for deer from 100 -200 lbs. I run them at just under 3000 fps with RL 25 and no pressure problems in a 24" barrel. I once shot cold bore over a 3 week period and ended up with a .678" 3 shot group at 100 yds from my Browning A Bolt II. I called it good enough and continue to shoot deer. The 25-06 is a lot more lethal than people give it credit for. Try those Speer bullets , they rarely do not pass through with a lot of internal damage. I get more DRT results than with my 280.
Getting fairly close on my 25-284 build, I did some research on .257 bullets. I'm a big Sierra Game King Spitzer boat tail fan for big game. I checked out some 117 Sierra's but noticed Speers 120 SBT bullet is fairly impressive compared to the Sierra models of equal weight and design. I just can't find them anywhere. I'd sure like to find a couple hundred. I'd guess they'd run around 3200 from my cartridge conservatively as no need to push them any faster.

I also am a fan of Sierra Gamekings , except in 7mm. I shoot their 140's in my 280. I have never had any luck getting Sierra 117 Gamekings to group in my qtr bore rifles. I started out with Speer 120 SPBT's back in the 80's in a Ruger 77 ST and they shot great. I traded that one off and ended up back in the 25-06 business with a Browning A Bolt. I've shot deer out to 300 yds with them and they've done a great job. Complete pass throughs. I once shot a deer facing me with his head down at around 85 yds at the base of the neck , I found the bullet in front of the pelvis , it had passes through the neck vertebrae , continued under the spine and settled just in front of the pelvis, It was still in one piece , the jacket was a little loose on the core but it had gone through alot of deer meat to get there. Like I said , I run them at near 3000 fps muzzle , dont know how they'll act with a couple of hundred extra fps . Good luck finding some, luckily I had stocked up pretty well before it got this bad.

I shot loads almost exactly as

MagnumManiac

100 and 117g bullets, R#25 with a Fed 215...tremendous velocity with extremes in accuracy.

Sierra 117g btsp and the 120g Speer btsp are bullets worth building a rifle around. SD was less than 10 fps with R#25.

If your barrel does not like a nosler, it will probably love a speer. The speer 100g sp and btsp are great bullets on deer.

I got 1/2" groups out of the 100g nosler partition with the R#25 loads.

I used Winchester brass only.

You guts must be newbies with the 25-06, not one of you has mentioned Accurate 3100. It was pixie dust for a 25-06. If you do research you will find it is currently avalible from the original maker Lovex.

But Accurate 3100 hasn't been offered at minimum since the circa 2004 buyout of Accurate powders by Western Powders (and now bought out by Hodgdon), and Accurate 3100 = Lovex S071 isn't currently available for retail purchase in the USA, although Karen Gerard of Shooters World powders says some commercial US customers purchase Lovex S071 powder. So if anyone posted up loads using Accurate 3100 / Lovex S071, shooters in the US would have a difficult time acquiring the powder to test that load data.

In the mean time different powders have appeared on the market such as some of the IMR Enduron series for example, and other choices like Hodgdon Retumbo, with published load data for the 25-06 Remington cartridge.

For example Accurate 3100 still appears in current Speer load data for the 25-06 Remington cartridge in 100 grain and 120 grain bullet weights. Those pages are arranged with highest muzzle velocity at the top and descends from there. Accurate 3100 is near the bottom of those pages.

Yes and after just a quick look I can see why. A3100 was best for 117 and 120 bullets (all I have ever shoot ). The charts you posted show 56 grains max for a 100 grain bullet, and 51 grains max for a 120 grain bullet. I am currently shooting H4381 in my 25-06 as I have not been able to get Lovex or 3100 but it has never shot near as good a group with H4381 as with A3100. With all the new powders on the list maybe there is a new best powder for the 25-06. I have Retumbo in quantity and will give it a try. Ive shot 2 antelopes several Florida hogs and a few deer, and the smaller bullets never seemed to be suited to any of the game i was hunting.
