.25-06 pet loads wanted

gd day everyone!
my friend has a factory standard sako heavy varmint in .25-06 that has a 1-10 twist,i think) and is wanting to have a bit of fun with f-class.

i have a .257 wby mag but im no expert with the .25-06. he has h4350 on hand but no suitable projectiles. something from sierra or hornady would be great as bergers can be a bit hard to come by sometimes.

I had a Sendero that did not want to shoot at all! The fit of action to stock was so bad if you tightened the forward reciever to stock bolt the action would bend. However after bedding the actin, freefloating barrel and lapping the barrel it would shoot 1/2' but very picky about the bullet and loads. What worked in mine was 60.5 RL-19 and a 75 Hornady v-max for 3600fps. Please do not start at this load, it was safe in mine, may not be in yours.

I use my 25-06 for some long range deer hunting and I have found that the 117 Sierra pro-hunter is really a very accurate bullet. I use 49 grs IMR 4350, Remington case, CCI 250 primer for 3000 fps from my 26' Shilen barreled Rem. 700. It will shoot under 1/2 MOA on a calm day.

Shot a heavy barrel Ruger M77 in .25-06 for many years. Best load was the Sierra 90 hpbt, 57.0 H4831sc. Consistently shot 1/2 moa. Chronod at 3250.

I see a comment back there about a Sendero. I recently bought a Rem SPS stainless in .25-06. Got rid of it just as quickly. A gunsmith friend of mine says that there is no such thing as a square M700. On a brand new 700, he has to true up the recoil lug, locking lugs and bolt face on a lathe and bush the firing pin hole before he is satisfied. That`s why so many F Classers have switched to Savage. They shoot right out of the box.

It sounds like your gunsmith friend likes to make a bunch of $$$$ off unsuspecting people. No an out of the box 700 Remington is not a custom blueprinted bench rifle. If it came from the factory like that it would cost you several thousand dollars. By the way, did you shoot that Sendero much? I have never seen one that would not really shoot with the right loads.

2506: Actually my gunsmith friend does not go looking for customers. They come to him. He is so busy that he has a one year waiting list and is turning down customers. Some are bench rest shooters, some are F Classers and some are just run-of-the-mill hunters who have a M700 .22-250, .243, .xxx that won`t shoot and are willing to spend the $150 or so to fix the problems and walk away with an accurate rifle. Or they don`t bother and sell/trade the thing. I was not trying to sound like a know-it-all with my comment on the Sendero. Was merely passing on an observation that may help some other shooter having problems with a M700 which is after all the major purpose of this forum.

A good load for 1000 yds is 54 grs H4831,both Long and short)behind a 108 JLK bullet just touching lands in Norma 270 Win Brass, shortened and necked down) with a fed 210 GM primer. I get under moa,in competition) with this load with a mauser, military) action, Hart barrel and a old walnut b/r stock. However I can't guess if it will work for you.

thanks guys!
just saw that sierra do a 120gr HPBT that i might try to work up a load with. he's not going to be taking it too seriously but itll probably be enough for him to get hooked :D

DANCONZO stuff my mate id LOVE to get my hands on some JLK projectiles for me!! id take 2000 130gr 6.5mm and load em in my 6.5x47 but my local gun shop was going to take 4 months to get a set of burris signature rings so JLK's may as well not even exist. you guys have no idea how lucky you are. although i have been thinking about doing the paperwork and having a batch sent over.

The 117 Sierra BT Spitzer is also a good bullet out to 700 yds--it just drops too much at 1000,320'). The 108 JLK drops about 100' less, both zeroed @ 200 yds). The 115 Berger should also do well, but I have not tried them. The 115 Nosler Plastic Tip shoots well close but I haven't shot it beyond 300 yds.

I tried 115 Berger VLDs in my Ruger with different powders but never got the accuracy I wanted. May have just been that my rifle didn`t like them or the ten twist wasn`t steep enough. Also never got tight groups with the 120 Sierra HP. Had to use Sierra 100 MKings or 90 hp to get consistent sub-moa groups. H4831sc or IMR 4831 were the best powders.
