243 with 105 bullets

May or may not depend on what bullet as the length of the bullet is a large part of what determines stability here, but I've ran a 105 VLD which is quite long out of my .243 Win. with a 1:9 twist at 3100 and it stabilized fine, although I currently run it faster at 3175 FPS.

At 3100 FPS out my 1:9 twist it's running at 248,000 RPM. If you run that same velocity in a 9.25 twist it only drops the RPM down to 241,297, I doubt that little of an RPM loss will cause it to not be stable.

How do you know for sure? Try it out - I'd be willing to bet you'll be fine though. Reloder 17 is what gives me the 3175 FPS by the way.

ETA: Donald mentioned Retumbo, I've used that with 105s as well and it gave me 3070 FPS .010" off the lands with 49.2 grains which is quite compressed. Recoil is considerably more than with my current loading with 43.3 grains of Reloder 17 which gives 3175 FPS.

Shot F Class 2 years ago with a .243 Savage 12FV, 9.25 twist. Used 105 Amax and 107 MKing. No problem. Loaded them over a compressed load of RL25. Chronod at 3050 fps. Both bullets very accurate at 1000 yds.

I have had really good luck with the 105 A-Max in my 700 VLS. I have great results with H4350 and H1000 worked well also.

I also give a nod to the 1000 yard. There is a P-Dog in western Kansas that fell to my 105 A-Max at 1020 yards.

my savage 9.25 twist loves them 2950fps and it holds great groups out to 600 yds that I know of when I rebarrel I will go to 1/8 twist though
