243 Winchester/IMR-7828/95 grain bullet load data

I've "read" with this combo you can get over 3200fps. I've loaded up to 47 grains with no pressure signs. Haven't chronographed yet. I'm using Winchester brass/Wolf LR primers/imr 7828 powder/and nosler 95 grain b-tips. Anyone have any experience with this combo or the like.

IMR7828 is a slow burning powder so longer the barrel the better. Would not consider anything under 26".

For 95 grain loads, look to IMR4350 for barrel 26" and under.

Yeah, I know its a slow burning powder, but the clip I read the poster stated he was only using a 22" barrel to get over 3200. I have a 25" 8 twist Krieger on my rifle. I tried H1000 and with 105's and 48 grains I was getting close to 3100fps. My rifle has a long throat, so I can seat the bullets long and use more powder in the case. I will be getting to the range soon and see where the 47 grain load of imr-7828 is at in velocity. How about RE-22 , I'm hoping to utilize near to full case loads of powder. Thanks.

That bullet seems a little light for 7828. I am shooting a 6mm Remington with 115 VLDs seated 3.2" OAL, jammed .015, and get around 3320 from a 32" barrel. Even seated out that far, it takes a full case to almost reach full pressure. I get better results from N560 and Reloder 22, which are both a little faster. H4831 SC produces more consistent accuracy than any of the above but slightly less velocity.

Using 95 gr. bullets, I'd suggest N560 or RL22 or maybe IMR7828 ....in that order.
NOSLER 5th Edition Reloading Guide for 243 suggests N560 for 95 gr. bullets as the accuracy powder.
You can expect velocities from 3000-3150 fps

I've been shooting IMR4831 with Berger 88's in a 243AI 26"PacNor 1:10
H4831SC produced slower velocities by 85-95 fps when using same powder weights.
IMR 4831 with incrimental powder increases developed increased pressure & velocity and improved accuracy with single didgit ES and SD,
I'm just over 3500 fps with 300 yd. 1/2" or better groups
My brass life and barrel life will be reduced - but those are the sacrifices for long range accuracy.

Thanks for the replies. I have gotten over 3100 fps with the 105 amax so I believe 3200 and over with the 95 grain nosler is possible with the right powder. Again, I want to use a slower burning powder and fill the case as full as possible.

R19 gives me a shade above 3k with 100 grain Partitions out of a 22" barrel, about the best I have got so far. Under 1" at 200 yards by the way. Load is warm enough for me.

Try Hybrid 100V, I got 3000 FPS with a 95 grain Nosler Partition from a 22" sporter barrel, you won't be sorry. Personally I think you are pushing a .243 to get that kind of velocity.

Went to the range today, weather was cool in the 50's. I shot 3 rounds each loaded at 45-46-47 grains. The 47 grain load of IMR-7828, 95 Nosler BT, and BR2 primer was the best. I loaded the round so it would fit into my HS detachable magazine. I shot a 3 shot group under a half inch at 100 yards with the 47 gr load. I have not chronographed this load, but the accuracy seems promising at whatever speed I'm at. I loaded up several more rounds of this loading and will continue to test this load in the following weeks.

I chronographed the load today, average speed was 3066, so I'm pretty amazed at people claiming 3200fps with 22" barrels.

Howdy !

My 6mm wildcat is a couple grain smaller in capacity than a .243Win.

While yes.... I7828 ( I7828SC ) IS slow in this case capacity and a 29" barrel, the accuracy results
I've gotten w/ I782 were superb !

I also think your idea of using RL-22 is very astute. In my 6mm wildcat, the EXACT same charge wt of RL-22 worked best ( better than anyother charge weights tried ) for all 6mm bullets 85-95gr.

As regards 6mm 95s... I have not tried the Nosler ( and probably won't ), but HAVE shot/used Berger 95s.
Also, the SIerra 95 work shoot quite well. I like both for all-around use, but must also say that I am not shooting 1,000 yd; either.

With my 6mm wildcat's case capacity, I could fill the case and do a mild compression of the I7828/SC powder, and pressure fine. Obtained velocity of my loads was OK for my needs, as I was first and foremost going for accuracy.

Best of luck in your endeavors !

So where is a good starting point for the RE-22 powder? I'm using this rifle for hunting not target shooting.
