That's a heck of a deal . . . My off-the-shelf LRP .243 shoots 5 shot groups at or better than 0.31 MOA with 7 different loads (bullets ranging from 55 grain to 80 grain, inclusive).

That suggests to me that savage won't be chambering 243 in the future thanks to lacklustre sales, just as applied to Ruger and its Precision Rifle. So, if you want a fast-twist factory heavy-barrel rifle, you have a window of opportunity.

What I've always wondered about these rifles, also factory fast-twist 223s like the early Tikka T3 Tactical with its 8-pitch, is what chamber do the makers adopt. It's little use having a rifling pitch that stabilises long bullets if the standard SAAMI throat length is used, a mere 25-thou' in 223 Rem, not sure about 243 but it'll be based on the SAAMI 2.800" COAL.

Don’t count out Howa.

I don't know what they offer now but I've got a 223 Howa 1500 heavy barrel that shoots 1 1/16" groups at 300 yards. I'm thinking the entire rife and scope was $600 or less can't remember. The load is a 40 grain moly VMAX at 3,900 FPS.

It shoots better groups if I slow her down but then it drifts in the wind more.

My buddy has a Savage 12 varminter low profile that shoots lights out.
The only thing that it needed out of the box was to have the action bedded to the stock which I did for him.
The upside - excellent stainless steel button rifled heavy barrel. Even better prefit Shilen barrels available from Northland Shooter Supply at a reasonable price.
Downside - the factory 9.25 twist rate maxes out with 95 gn bullets.
The trigger is not as good as aftermarket triggers for Remington actions but it!s not bad for a factory rifle.
If you want even better accuracy in a factory gun spend a little more for the Savage Elite Precision in 6 Creedmore or the Savage 12 F class in 6BR. Both are excellent for target shooting.

Probably in comp guns but not in every other rifle, plus the millions already out in circulation. Although, the .243 makes a great PRS round.
