243 win with 105s at a slower speed (2900-3000 fps), thoughts?

My friend is and anti speed freak. His 105 Hybrid load runs around 2800 in his 243. Maybe 2850. He used 40 brass and his bbl lasted 3800+ rounds. He said the brass was still good, but trashed it anyway when he screwed his new tube on. He only shoots 1 or two rounds at a time, but he shoots many times a day.

Now, I'll let you guys do the math on that one.

Tod

Ps, his new tube shoots awesome with the same load.

Mine is not a screamer but accuracy is there and it's easy to dial the elevation at least for me, my load is running right at 3009 fps and so far the only problems I've run into isn't the load but I seem to have forgotten how to read the wind...... guess that happens when you don't shoot for a couple of years :) Later,

So Im toying around the idea of putting together as mostly just a fun gun, but may use it in a practical rifle match here and there. I had a 243 for about a year a couple years ago and loved the low recoil and great ballistics. What i don't love is the relatively short barrel life. One idea I had was to load a 243 down to about 3000 fps with 105-107gr bullets. This would still afford me pretty good ballistics, but might help save on barrel wear. Has anyone here done something similar? Is this worth pursuing, or should I be looking at another cartridge like 6XC? If so what did barrel life turn out to be? Thanks for any experiences you have to share!

When I ran my brass thru my barrel the first time I shot the lower node breaking the barrel in. Chronographed 6-10 th shots and 196-200. The barrel sped up 20FPS ending at 2948 fps. H1000 was used, accuracy good.

My 243win's use H-4831 with 105vld or 107smk at around 2,940fps 26"bbl... Barrel life is unbelievable. Let's just say at 1,300 rounds the throat has no wear or signs of any firecracking.
