.243 win remingto model seven build...help

I've had a .243win Remington Model Seven since I was young and decided I want to upgrade it. I wanna make it a budget do all rifle (be able to shoot whitetail amongst other game as well as shoot over 600 yards for fun). The only real criteria I want is it needs to be moderateley light. I'm new to the rifle building game and am looking to all of yall for some help. Can you give me some buildup package ideas including things like barrels, stocks, rings, scopes, etc..... Thanks.

I have a Model 7 243. Two "budget" things I did which greatly enchanced the accuracy was free float the barrel and glass bed the action. With reloads, I'm acheiving well under 1 moa at 100 yards. I really like this rifle, it's a great option for hunting in heavy cover and carry in mountain terrain. With varmint bullets, it's a great "walking around" varmint rifle. The 243 was designed as duel purpose cartridge so it meets you're "all around" criteria.

I have a 3x 9 Leupold VXII scope on mine which enables me to make consistent hits on varmints out to 200 yards and works very well for deer hunting in heavy cover dialing the scope down to 3x.

The other issues you mentioned do not fit my concept of "budget" options but installing a preimum barrel (like a Douglas) in a longer length, (i.e. 22 or 24") in a heavier contour should significantly improve the ballistics and accuracy which is important for long range shooting. But it will increase the weight which defeats the purpose of the Model Seven.

As far as stocks, McMillian offers a high grade stock for the Model Seven which is very stable and should significantly enchance accuracy but this is not a budget option either.

As far as deer hunting, choosing the proper bullet is really critical with this caliber. The Nosler partition is an excellent bullet for the 243 for deer size game. I like the 80 grain Sierra Blitz bullets for varmints and predators.

If you really want to shoot at 600 yards, consider a scope with turrets or Mil Dot so you can make the appropriate elevation corrections.

I am just getting ready to upgrade my sons Model 7 .243. A Rock Creek barrel is on order in same profile but will finish at 22 inches long and be set up for Lapua brass with about .004 neck clearence in the chamber. I am currently looking at Bell & Carlsons stocks. They make them for model 7's in various styles and colors and it will be a synthetic. I figure its worth it to upgrade it as they hold their value well and its one that my son loves. His will be a dual purpose rifle as well with some woodchuck hunting and deer hunting thrown in. I would not go over 22 inches on barrel length as already stated it defeats the purpose of the Model 7. If wanting to shoot 600 yards you may want to find a suitable 700 donor rifle for a target build.

Ya your probaly right. But I already have the gun, and just thought I'd make a project out of it. What twist barrel were you looking at? I'd like to use a 95-100 grain bullet for the majority of my shooting.

We ordered a 10 twist barrel. Most of the weights we will shoot will be from 70 grain for chucks and 80-95 grain for whitetails.
