243 Win 85 gr powder recommendation

I trying to develop a .243 Win load with Hornady 85 gr Interbonds. Anybody have a powder recommendation to start with. I'm thinking of trying RL-19.

around 36.5 to 37 grains of 4064 is a great load for the 85 sierra HPBT. It comes straight from one of the older Sierra manuals, and I have had success with it in several rifles.

It may work great also with the 85 Hornady.

First choice would be IMR 4350 followed by IMR 4064. Varget also works quite well in this bullet weight.

You can do very fine with RL19 in a 243win.

I haven't done any better with IMR-4350. RL17 is very similar to 4350, but will buy you an extra 150-200fps.

This was a first 5-shot group with this load, with a Tikka T3 Lite and 20x Intensity Optics scope shooting 100 yards off a portable bench.

I used the 85 grain HPBT and 4350. I think I used 42 or 43 grains. I haven't shot this in a long time but from what I remember it was accurate and very deadly on deer. Start low and work up. Matt

I agree with the above. I've been loading 37.0 gr IMR 4064 with both the 85 gr Sierra and the 87gr Hornady HPBT, and it shoots less than .5 moa in 5 different rifles.
