.243 WIN - Varget - 87gr VMAX- Start Ld

.
I am starting out with 34.0 gr Varget. Hodgdon lists 35.0 start for 85 gr BAR XBTC, 34.0 start for 90 gr SPR SP.

I normally load .223 REM. This is first time with .243 WIN.
The new R-P casing is only 1/2 to 2/3 full of powder, verified by tamping rod sitting approx. 1 inch deep below neck. Primer is Wolf Russian Standard LR.

Question: Should I be concerned here with underfilled casing, too much space) causing ignition/burn problems?

Varget is way too fast for the 243 and the 87 V-Max. You "can" get loads but they will be very slow, and it will be easy to exceed max pressures - plus there is the possibility of ignition issues that you referred to.

A far better choice would be H-4350 or H4831SC.

I know that it is not the same bullet as your are wanting to use.. but a friend of mine is using VV n160 with Berger 108BT's.. Lets put it this way.. He shot a 599-42x's in a 3x600 with that load!
