243 vs 6BR

6br for that distance. The .243 does better at long distances because of the higher velocitites. There's more too it than that, but that is the short of it. Good shooting, Brian.

I used a .243 for 6 months in a varmint silhouette competition. My barrel went south at 1200 rounds. The .243 was not consistent enough to be competitive. I realized that most of the match was shorter than the 600 yard max. I chose to rebarrel in 6mmBR, with Varget, the consistency is amazing. I have won the competition twice since then. Accuracy first, speed is secondary, it doesn't matter how fast it is going when it misses.

Unless you need to find stuff cheap then 6mmbr is not very easy to do well on the cheap.
6BR: Less powder, proven longer barrel life, 6BR Lapua brass costs more than "cheap" 243 brass, but can be loaded 35+ times, so that's a draw, except for the advantage of the superior quality of Lapua compared to the "cheap" 243. Excellent performance to 600 yds., and beyond with heavy bullets & a fast twist barrel, and accuracy that is far above the typical 243. Approx. the same cost for similar die sets, bullets & primers, same cost. Many years experience with both chamberings and I don't see any cost disadvantages, but I see a lot of advantages. Could not disagree more. ;)

The 6BR is habds down the winner even at 1000 yards in my opinion. The 6BR is a majical chambering as is the 6PPC. Maybe a 243 for coyotes or deer in a factory rifle but if paper is the game the 6BR will win!!!! Lee
