243 Twsit rate

Hey fellas just wondering if you guys could lend a little more info on the twist rates bullet combinations for 243. Ive been reading and some say that a 1:9 will stabilize 105-107gr bullets an other say no. Just looking for a little clarification and maybe some personal experience? Thanks fellas.

What make/model you shooting? I've never gotten my factory Rem 700s to properly stabilize the 107 which is why Sierra introduced the 95 a few years ago. That bullet is great....once you find your load recipe. I've never tried 105s, but some have posted it has a greater bearing surface so you may get it to fly pretty well. The heaviest I shoot is the 100 Sierra Pro Hunter for deer.

It would be in a Savage 12 VLP DBM. No hunting for me just looking for accuracy. So the 95gr Sierra's would be what Id probably need to use then? I know the 115gr stuff like that would have to used in a 1:8 twist for the real long range shooting but was just unclear on the 105-107gr range. Thanks for the info.

Heard of some stabilizing 105 amax in 9 twist barrels but, can't speak of personal experience! I myself have successfully shot 87 vmax through my 12 twist 243 with no problems yet. Most say you need a 10 twist to stabilize that bullet but.....

I have a rem 243 sps varmint with a 9.125 twist. It will shoot 105 amax and Bergers 3 shot groups are .3"-.5" @ 100. Timney trigger,. B&C stock H4831 powder

Yea I have a chance at picking up a Savage VLP DBM in 243 for very reasonable money so that's why I was wondering. Ive been looking for an entry level bench rest rifle to get into the sport but didn't want to spend an arm an a leg to start out with to make sure I liked it. I was going to get one of Savages bench rest rifles in 6mm BR. But this one is must less expensive. Just didn't know if it would do ok for bench rest as far as the caliber or not?.....

Ok Im guessing the 95gr would do good then?... What kind of accuracy should they yield in the 200-300yrd range?

Accuracy is not expected, I would want to know how it was taken care of..I would want to know how many rounds have been burn through it..maybe bore scope it, check for any alignment issues so you don't run out of moa adjustment....

The guy that has said hes put less than 100rds through it. from what I seen it looked pretty clean. But I didn't check the bore out. Ill have to try an give it the once over and see how it looks also.

A very subjective question. Never know til you try. AND for some info for you on the 95 SMK....I've observed in my rifle and in others'....they like to be jumped. Jumping .065-.070 in mine using H4350 or IMR 4350. Just shy of mag length in my 700s. Of course, every rifle is different. And don't believe all the crap about 4350 being barrel burners. As long as you let it cool, you're good.
