243 and Retumbo

Well it's going to go boom this weekend,I hope) I just got my bolt handle welded on so the rifle is done less the pretty stuff, I have posted on several different places and it seems that Retumbo has gotten the nod for powder and I went with the 105gr. A-Max bullets but I'd appreciate if you would be so kind as to offer some charge weights that have worked for you. The barrel is a 27" 1-8 twist Broughton so it should work fine with the 105's might try some of the 115 DTAC bullets later though. Fella's your help would be great. Later,

The sweet spot for my rifle is somewhere around 48-48.5 grs Retumbo with the 105 AMAX. What so far has been a better,read more accurate at a higher velocity) is 3100. Around 42-42.5 grs looks to be more consistent; however, I have not finished the final stages of my testing. Best of luck!

Kirk what action did you use? I have the same make, length and twist barrel and I am going to have it chambered in 243 once my Lawton action comes.

coupalr, I'm just a nut for Mausers so I built this one on a Turk action. I rolled a few rounds Friday night and a trip to the range Saturday and I belive I'll like this rifle! I loaded the Retumbo powder and while the bullets did not like to be pushed real hard I found a couple of loads that worked real well. I will be spending some time with figuring out COL today and working up a few more loads since the loads I tested were right off the Hodgdon website. I have some pictures of the rifle,it's not 100% complete yet still have to coat it) but this is the 4th I have done off Mauser actions and while not the BEST action out there they are working fine for me.
