.243 and 65 gr. v-max loads?

I plan on trying that powder and some different bullets as you have suggested but also going to work up a load with the 87 gr. v-max. Heck I never did mention that the rifle I'm shooting is a new savage 110 predator ...factory rifle...When I burn this barrel up I'll then spin on a custom. Being a factory rifle it's shooting pretty good so far...I do intend to play with some different loads as it's been a long time since I owned a .243. I believe the .243 win is one of the most versatile cartridges out there and an inherently accurate round to boot. I will add that to reach the lands on this rifle ...with the 65gr. v-max I did not have to go very far at all and with the magazine that came with it there is about a half inch of room for longer bullets as the throat wears...I'm impressed with that being a factory gun.

The velocity I averaged for the 65 gr. v-max with 41.4 grains of Varget came out (on My Crony) at 3559 for 8 shots.
I ended up using 43.0 grains of IMR 4350 with the 87 gr. v-max and average velocity of 3205fps. My average group
for the 87 gr. was .792 which I wish was smaller but I'm happy so far. Like said I plan on using some advice from
AckleymanII. You weren't too far off Zero333. My crony could read differently too.

The TNT is very impressive.

And very inexpensive. A best buy. I shoot 87 TNT in my 250 A.I., 70 TNT in 6mm Rem, and 50 TNT in 223. Get 1000-cnt box on sale, and they're almost free!

Amen. In 6mm Rem, Hodgdon lists 3812 fps behind 70-gr bullet. My box stock '67 R700 V.S. in 6mm Rem gets great varmint-level accuracy with that load behind 70 TNT. Vaporizes rockchucks.

Well...I am still having fun with different loads in the 243. I went out yesterday with the first load I developed which was
the 65gr. v-max at 3559 fps. I caught a coyote out just under 300 yards....missed the first two shots (excited...coyote fever...LOL)
but aimed for the back of his head going up hill and hit him about four inches below his head and into the spine ...3 inch hole and tore
spine in half with 6 inch hole and gutted on the under side.. Range finder said 281 yards...nothing to skin but this yote
looked like it had mange anyway...so no big deal. Just a fun day in the cold...about 4 degrees. I called two more spots but feel lucky
to get the one anyway. When it gets warmer I will try some more loads and bullets that you guys have mentioned.
