.243 AI what neck?

After reading the articles I Decided to go with a .243 AI instead of a 243 WSSM.

Now what should I order for a chamber and neek? Plan on firing 115 Dtac's.

I do want to turn necks. I am willing and I know it helps.

Rhino....
You are reading my mind buddy... What twist rate and what groove bbl,4 or 5..) will be best? Sounds like an exciting project. I have a Broughton 8 twist sitting in my closet. Do you think something a little faster than 8, would spin the 115's a little better?

Call Dave Kiff Monday about the reamer...

Chuck

four groove Pac-nor 1-7.5 twist is the barrel. According to R. Whitley he said in order to make sure you can stabilize the heavy match bullets a 1-7.5 is adviseable.

1-8 may or may not work.

Rhino,
I am having problems with the 115's in an 8 twist. The barrel that I am using is a high round count Pac-Nor, that will still shoot 107's lights out if it is real clean. I have two new 8 twist barrels, such is life. Ya think the 4 grove, 7.75 twist Pac-Nor will shoot the 105's and 107's as well as or better than an eight twist?

I am going to shoot the old 8 twist in one more match, then my new MBR stock should be here from Sharp Shooters Supply, I am going to put the new Pac-Nor bbl and stock on the same day.
I am going to break the bbl in and do load testing with the 115's to start. I sure hope the fly well in the new 8 twist., my old barrel has over 2200 .243 rounds down it) It is toast.

What about the 6.5 x 47.. necked to 6mm...
Chuck

I don't have any experience with 6mm projectiles. I am going with what I have read and what Mr. Whitly has told me when I questioned him about his .243 rig.

The problem is some 1-8 twists are not true 1-8, could be 1-8.3 or something similar.

A long tube 30 inch 1-8 twist in a .243 or .243 AI may stabilize the 115's pushed 3000 fps and over.

However why take the chance? Most people agree for the 115's the 1-7.5 twist is the way to go.

6.5x47 necked down should be good, again go with the 1-7.5 twist. I am sure you could sell the barrel to recover the costs and then buy another barrel.

I want to be able to scream the 115's, so the large capacity and slow powders are the route I am going.

And now to answer your question what size to turn the necks to. I have a reamer that is designed for no turn Lapua 243 brass in a 243AI it has a .276 neck if i was you i would have the reamer speced to .270 and turn the necks to .268 it will give you pleaty of cleen up and a good finish but talk to David Kiff at pacific he probably has a reamer speced that will be suitable without having to reinvent one just call him and explane exactly what you want to acchive and he will help you out.
