243 AI verses 22-6mm AI

Well, in my last thread it was determined that the 22-243 AI had an edge on the 22-243 Middlestead. How would you rate these 2 cartridges? After reading the artical from the Rifleman on the 22-6mm AI, this one looks pretty good also. I like the idea of being able to shoot a 75 grain A-Max at 3800 FPS. What are you thoughts on these two?

, 75 grain A-Max at 3800 FPS. )

Be prepared to swap out barrels after less than a 1000 rounds.....

I agree with Preacher. Not only will it be eating up barrels you are going to have to stay really on top of cleaning especially the carbon fouling that will build up in the throat and become hard as concrete. Plus this is by no means a cartridge that you could fire a large amounts of rounds threw in a short period of time due the it being a high intenstity cartridge.

I don't know what your quarry might be, or whether you also do a lot of paper shooting.

Perhaps you don't realy need such high vel ?

My 22-35 Rem wildcat w/ a 1-8 28" SS 5-groove K & P
could put 3,500fps on a .224" cal 75 "A"-Max.

This, from only 40.5gr AA3100; and FED LR Magnum MAtch primer.
Accuracy load was obtained with simple switch of load to FED
LR Match primer.

The load was capable of putting 450ft lb on a groundhog @ 966yd.
That, would be adquate energy for a clean-kill @ 1,000.

My point:
This level of cartridge performance can work fine for both paper shoots, and on live varmint. Plus, barrel life went easily beyond 3,400 rounds.

Best of luck in your endeavors,

Regards,
