243 AI - Rl17 -85-95gr bullets ??

Any one tried Rl 17 in the 243 AI ? If so what kind of results did you get with bullets in the 85-95 gr wt. range? Any suggestions on where to start with these bullet wts ?

Thanks ,

Brute

I've just began trying it in my 243 that is a 10 twist 26" long. With 75 gr bullets it easily handles 44grains.

I've used it a LOT in the 6xc and with a 9 twist 27" I was able to get 41gr under a 95gr Sierra with no issues.

While no 243AI data here, perhaps this will give you some idea of where to start.

What I've noticed with it is that it in both rifles is that it burns REAL clean, has given me lower ES, higher velocities than I expected, and obviously lower pressures than I expected. Accuracy from both rifles was equal or better than what I was previously using. Good luck and let us know how it works for you. :)WD

I've been using 43.5grs of RL17 in two 243AI's for varmint work. It gives me 3450fps in a 29" tube. I also would agree that it burns very clean. I'd start around 42 and work up from there. These are both 8" twist barrels so I can see where you might get some more out of a slower twist. The load above is a stout load flat primers but no ejector marks or hard bolt lift, no primer cratering either.

Hi you may get no hard bolt lift with your Ackly as its a straight walled case, you need to look at loading by measuring the web, I have two AI 243s so please read up on loading.
