.243 AI IMR7828 SSC

I searched high and low for a load for a 95 gr. Nosler BT using IMR 7828. I didnt come up with much. So I kind of winged it. One book I looked at listed 46.0 gr. compressed as a max for the .243 Win. Another listed Max at 45.5. This was regular 7828 not the SSC. I guess you can load it to max without compressing.

I started my AI load at 48.0 and worked up to 49.5 grains. My primers are Rem 9 1/2, Win case with a COAL at 2.72. I havent fired any yet as I just finished up loading them. I plan on going out Sunday.

Do those loads look ok to you guys? Im fairly new to reloading and the whole wildcat thing. Ive been loading varmint loads for the AI, This is my my crack at a hunting load.

Thanks in advance.

IMR 7828 SSC is slightly slower-burning than Alliant RL-22. Seems your load suggestions are within the CORRECT ballpark. Use a chronograph for proper velocity, or guess your head-off. Both mentioned powders are .243 ready depending on bullet weight and desired results. cliffy

Well, After today Range session I am scrapping the 7828 ssc idea. Neither rifle I loaded for like it at all!

My .243 AI with 95 Nosler BTs would not group at all. 1' is the best it would do. My.243 Win with 100 grain partitions basically threw bullets at the target. I know this rifle loves 100 grain pills. Hell it will shoot 1/2' groups with factory ammom from Remington, Corelokts even.

I had 3 .243 rounds left that were loaded to suggested max. Fot the hell of it I shot them through the AI. The damn thing shot a clover leaf group with them......Hmmmmmm. I want planning on using 100 gr. Partitions in it, But I will test them out now!

On a good note, I shot my best group ever with the AI today with my go to varmint load. I didnt bring calipers with me so I couldnt measure it. But all 3 shots were touching in a nice little ragged hole. I suck at bench shooting so I was pumped over that!

Not having an "AI" .243, I keep trying IMR 7828SSC powder with a standard .243 Winchester. I know IMR 7828SSC
is slow-burning stuff, but I've not given up on it just yet. Hodgdon H4350 get the 100 grainer there before 7828SSC wakes up and smells the coffee. Can a powder be just too slow-burning for the application? Cliffy
