I just had a new 243 AI barrel installed on my rifle. I am fire-forming my brass by loading factory or home-built full house .243 loads into the rifle and just shoot them. I then reload the fire-forms with my favorite brew and use them for shooting.
I recently was asked if I was inside reaming the necks for the "donut" that would be created by the fire-forming. HELP?
In the early 80's I was shooting an Ackley Improved 22-250 and I swear all I did was to fire-form, case trim when needed and shoot the brass.
I used neck reaming when I was necking down 270 into 6 rem brass. When I was bench shooting a 6 x 47 (222 mag necked up to 6mm), I would turn the brass necks to fit my tight neck chamber and then use an arbor for reloading.
I have used a paper clip to try to feel any donut and swear I don't feel anything formed.
Am I at risk for not neck reaming 243 AI brass after fire-forming?
thanks rch
