.243 87grn vmax loads

First time posting here. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what Hornady actually publishes in there more recent editions on .243 Win. I am looking for a safe starting - max for the 87grn vmax and IMR 4350. I tried using the search feature first and did get some pet loads of others. I do have other manuals but nothing that has 87 grn bullets. I've heard good results with this combo and wanted to try it. I plan on getting a Hornady manual to add to my collection but in the mean time I figured I'd ask here first.

Hi Chase, Hornady 7th edition lists the following: 87 gr V-max, H-4350, 39.8 grs = 2900fps, 41.6 grs = 3000fps, 43.4 grs = 3100fps (max load) for .243 Win. Good luck!

Thanks gotcha. I am looking for IMR 4350 data. Does the 7th edition cover it or just h4350? I've heard the two have about the same burn rate. I am not positive it would be safe to interchange the load data.

I've used 40.0 grains of IMR 4350 with this bullet and Federal 210 match primers with no signs of excessive pressure. Good hunting accuracy .5 to .6 in a sporter barrel.

This bullet is an excellent long range varmint bullet with a very high BC. Expect good things from it.

IMR 4350 is my go to powder for the 243, especially with heavier bullets (85 grain and above). Other excellent powders I've used are: IMR 4064 and Varget (especially with lighter bullets)

H4831sc gave me better accuracy with the 87 gr V-Max out of a 10" twist, chambered in .243 Win.

Thanks for the info on the different powders and bullet choices. I'll look into them once the supply chain in my area balances back out. I was only able to get my hands on the IMR 4350 for now.

My accurate load use in a
Rem 700 VLS 26 inch barrel

Try 43.0 and 43.5 and 44.0 in your gun, to see which is most accurate.

Hornady 7th Ed. only has H4350 loads for the 87gr VMax.

Lee's 2nd Ed. has 90gr jacketed bullet loads with a 2.625" OAL, the same as the VMax. The starting load for IMR 4350 with this 90gr bullet is 39.5, max is 43gr, non-magnum primer. The safe bet is to start with the 39.5gr load and work up.

I'm going to do what has been suggested and start low and work up safely. I feel with replies on here and googling and searching other forums that 39.5 grns. Is a safe start point. I'll try to get back on and post what I find in my trials. Just FYI. I am working loads for a Howa 1500 .243 1/10 twist that I got for Xmas from my family. So far I really like this rifle. Smooth action, 2stage trigger feels really good. I have not measured the pull but seems light and crisp. Light contour barrel. Stock may get changed in future. Has the hogue as of now. I just put a Nikon buck master that I had on it. Thanks for all your help so far.

I have been there but they don't offer the that exact bullet weight. I have access to many reloading books, but dont own any
