243 700 extraction

I have an older Remington 700 chambered in 243 win. It is a custom barreled rifle. I bought the rifle used. I am having some extraction issues after firing. Bolt lift is fine. Not sticky or hard. However when trying to pull the bolt back, it’s locked up solid. You can pull and pull and it just won’t budge. After a bit of work it will finally let loose. I am able to run the handle up and down when this happens. Happens with multiple different loads both light and hot. Brass has been trimmed to min oal.

Any ideas?

Color one of your used cases completely with a sharpie and run it in and out of the chamber a couple times. If there's an issue with the chamber it'll potentially help identify where.

That video doesn't properly explain the extraction process. If rearward pressure is being applied with an empty chamber, you don't want any contact of those two surfaces.

A friend built himself an AI once and in the process tried to square up the bolt lugs. He took too much off the lugs and lost ALL primary extraction, and gave the same indications.
If you don't know who did the custom work, this may be your problem.

It’s primary extraction for sure. Same thing in my palma gun. Gotta tig the bolt handle. I think GreTan does it. Don’t go to Alaska for this work.

I had a problem with extraction on my Remington 700 which turned out to be a brass issue. Multiple firings on my brass and the body diameter expanded and did not resize enough with my regular FL sizing die... a small base body die eliminated the problem.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had cleaned the chamber really well after this happened the first time as I thought it may be the problem. Didn’t seem to matter. I will try the sharpie idea. I am also going to look at that cam and try the bolt. That seems like it could be the problem as well. I will report back with any findings.

Again thanks for the replies and information

Does the fired brass have any indicators such as a ring or ridge on the case? Had a 308 that would leave a ridge( chambering flaw) causing problematic extraction.
