.243 / 6mm AI barrel life?

I'm new to the sight, but been lurking a while. I'm looking to build a long range varmiter, mostly chucks). I've been leaning toward the .243 AI, but I'm a bit confused. I keep reading on this sight that this round burns the throats out quicker than the 6mm Rem AI. How can this be? If the same bore diameter is loaded to the same pressures, doesn't less powder mean longer barrel life? I'd appreciate any incites here.

the 6mm rem has a longer case neck and therefore more powder is burnt in the case neck rather than in the throught of your rifle but there isnt much in it
somebody corect me im wrong

You got it right. The long neck in the 6mmAI is thought to help out the throat. I don't think there is any real sientific data that can support this claim however. They are both fine cases, but I think the 243AI simply looks silly with that extremely short neck. I have switched to the 6mmAI and can say without a doubt that it was a good descision.
