.240 PSP

I’ve just acquired a custom Mauser 98 sporter with a 24” barrel chambered in .240 PSP.
I have .240 PSP, RCBS full length sizer die on the way and Remington 6 mm brass, 80 grain Winchester bullets, and 100 grain Speer Grand Slam bullets on hand.
Also have a RCBS .243 seater die on order.
Planning on fire forming the brass with medium charge of 4831 or 4895 and working up from there.
Any ideas on loads, prepping brass or your experience with this caliber will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Phillair

Ahhhhhhhhh, the Page Super Pooper by noted outdoors writer Warren Page. That was big in the late 1950's thru the 1970's before I moved to Idaho. Smoked the 243.

thanks for the walk down memory lane,

Rich

The book I have on cartridge conversions says to form from 25-06 brass. I imagine 6mm rem would work too as they are the same rim diameter. I love older rifles chambered in odd calibers. I got a 25-06 AI built in the 60s I picked up a few months back and it loves H4831

I’ll probably start out with 4831. I have used it for years in 270, 30-06 and 30-06 Ackley.
It’s my accuracy load in .270 and ‘ 06 AI.
Bore looks good visually. I hope it shoots.
I’ll try to post an ad I saw on the rifle.
Ad shows it to be overseas. It’s not. It’s in my living room.
Thanks for the replies.

Shot the .240 with 80 Grain bullets And 29 grains H4895 to fire form some brass.
Resulting 240 PSP brass looks perfect.
It has a 1-12 twist barrel so it will probably like lighter bullets.
Rifle is sub moa at 100 yds. And was still sighted in with the 2-7 Lyman scope it came with.
It will get a new Zeiss 3-15 scope.
I was impressed. It’s a varmint/deer rifle so it will work for my intended purpose.
What trigger upgrade would you recommend ? Looks like original Mauser trigger and it’s about 3 #.
Now bad for a hunting rifle but has a long travel.
I have an 03 Springfield in 30-06 AI with a Timney that’s pretty good and a Remington bolt gun with a
Canjar that’s out of sight good.
Some ideas on a better trigger will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

I just installed a Jard , single stage , bottom adjustable in an AR 15 ( just over 2# ) that’s as good as any bolt gun trigger I ever shot. Hard to believe it functions in a semiauto rifle.
