22X47 Lapua

Very nice setup. What do you expect for bbl life alf ? The longer neck could/should/might let it live longer vs a 22/250?
Thanks.....

I don't expect to ever wear it out. Since load work is done, I won't shoot it anymore other than to check zero or smoke coyotes. I have others to use for play time.

Yup,.. I too, LIKE the LONGER Neck ! I am hoping that, Peterson or Alpha will make LRP Brass, in .22x47 Lap. AKA,.. Lapua Mini Lazer ! We will go 26", 1-9 twist, short throat, no turn Neck, on my son's M700 SA, to shoot the, 65 SGK's for Coydogs, 70-73 Berg VLD's or, 75 Horn BTHP ( which ever performs, best) for Steel / Targets to 500-700 yds at, a little less Velocity ( 50-100 FPS less than, Max. ) coupled with the NICE longer Neck, to make his Barrel, LAST, a bit longer,.. hopefully! We were gonna go .22-250 AI. The .22x47 L,.."LOOKS",.. better !

Been messing with 22 Creedmoor for about 5 years now and the hot rod 22 calibers are fun rounds for sure.
Ran the new 88gr Hornady out to 1000 last week and they look good.
Also made my longest to date coyote kill with the 88 a week or so ago..... don’t usually chase coyotes this time of year but had to give it a whirl at 521.

What twist you running for those 88 Hornady's? My 22CM will be ready this week.

Another comparison.

All 3 loaded with Berger 80gr VLD's..... 22-204 - 22x47 Lapua - 22-250

What kind of velocity are you getting with the 22x47? I am wanting to do a new 22 and the 22x47 is leading the race. The only think that might change my mind is an improved version

The 47 case is so close to being "improved", I don't think you'll see enough gain for the pain.

My 80 grain Berger VLD's are running right at 3370 in a 23" Bartlein.

You are right, probably not worth it. I was wanting to do a 20-23” barrel, so thank you for that info. I have over 1k of the 75 ELDM bullets, so I am hoping they will shoot well in this cartridge

Instead of improving a 47 case make life easy on yourself and just go to something with more case capacity like a 22 Creedmoor.

Reviving a kewl thread!
I acquired a 22x47 and everything you all have stated on it is true...Its easy to load for, and just simply shoots! H4350 with 80.5's and 80 eldms. Trying VLD's next.

Thanks for all the info!

at 33OO FPS its about 55 MOA drop to 1500 yards hits w will hard to spot with only 175 Ft lbs of energy on target but i like it. 300+ FPS than the 22 ARC

Time for an update to this thread & chambering.

I got into night time coyote hunting with thermals, and decided that fast & flat is where it's at for those endeavors, & I finally discovered the need for suppressors as well.

The original barrel on this gun I thought was too small to cut & thread for a suppressor, & I also wanted to go to lighter bullets for for the speed, so I sold the 8" twist, and bought a #5 Brux in 12" twist. I then sent my reamer in to be reground to zero freebore for the lightweights. Once everything was in hand, I had it chambered, & cut, threaded, & crowned at 18".

Bullet of choice was to be the Berger 52 grain Match. I started with them in the lands with CFE-223 that I thought would be a good match. Got them up to 3660, but not the accuracy I was looking for.

Next up was Varget. Better, with groups 1/2 to 3/4 MOA at 200, 3754 highest velocity.

H-4350 next, got up to 3620, best group was a .370" at 200, but only 3306 fps. I didn't shoot it again to see if it repeated.

H-4895 was the winner. Two back to back 5 shot groups at 200 were 1.4" & 1.5" at 3730.
Problem was, that jug of powder was almost empty, and when I drug out a new one, it was a different lot....great. Testing at the same charge, it shot just as good with another 50 fps or so velocity.

I had a brief fling with 40 Ballistic Tips getting them to 4100, but didn't pursue them seriously.

I haven't shot anything with this yet, but it's ready to go.

My AR's seem to get all the action now, which I think are better suited for the night hunts, due to faster follow up shots & when calling in multiples.
