22x47 Lapua seating

I have purchased a set of Redding dies for 22x47 Lapua.

The seater is just a standard seater, with no bells and whistles, particularly no micrometer top.

I'm big on seating depth, valuing it even more than powder charge- even with bullets that are allegedly insensitive.

I need some options on a micrometer top seater to make fine tuning easier.

Could I use a 6x47 die? I have heard people do this with other calibers anyway, to contact the bullet closer to the ogive.
What's this do to runout?

Appreciate any help.

I was told by Redding that they are not compatible with this set of dies. That was a major let down. I can't imagine why not.

How about a hornady universal 22cal seating did with the micrometer top? I have been using one in 22cal and 6mm with good luck.

Not sure if this helps you, but my 6.5 x47 lapua micrometer seater works perfectly on my 6x47 without inducing runout. I would think it MIGHT work for 22 cal as well...being that the body dimension is same and will still be supported. Seating plug fit may be the determining factor...just don't have any 22s to check for u.... just fyi

I really want to just use a Forster 6x47 Ultra die, and it sounds like it'll work, based on your findings.

I called Redding rather than emailing. They do make a micrometer top.

I also spoke with Forster about using a 6x47L Ultra seater. The tech said yes it will work at least as well as an RCBS die, but it's not optimal.

He did say that their die chambers are quite soft and it's no problem to ream them out. Looks like I'll just get a 223 die and work it over. Great!

Clancy,
I would suggest that you buy a blank Wilson straight line seater die and use the chamber reamer to cut the seater die. Then, you can get a Sinclair Micrometer top and you will have the best, most consistent seater you can get IMHO....
