22ppc neck turning

Hi,I need some help.Im trying to form some 22 ppc out of Silver State Armory 6ppc brass.I ran thru a Redding 6ppc neck sizer bushing die.But I used a .244 bushing-my chamber is .246 in a xp-100 pistol. The reloading press ram went all way up to the die,die was adjusted so no play in bushing. Now my problem. It will only neck down about 2/3 of the neck.It wont chamber in the gun.I then neck turned the last 1/3 of neck and it fit in chamber. Is it safe to do this turning the last 1/3 of neck-seems to me it may make the last 1/3 of neck too thin.
Why dont the neck go all the way into the die?Isnt the 22ppc and 6 ppc same except for the neck diameter,I can use same die, just change the bushing? Or give up and get some 220 Russian brass and start over. I tried to condense this, but hard to explain.ANY HELP APRECIATED!! Thank you

sharky, you need a full length sizeing die for the initial case forming. also with a .246 neck you may need to turn the case necks. I measured a couple of different 223 loaded rounds and the necks are .247-.248. Hope this helps, treeman

There is always a bit of the neck that is not sized when using a bushing die. You need a FL, non bushing, 22ppc die.

Whenever I do the first cases of a new cartridge that requires neck turning I always section one of the cases to make sure I have everything down pat.

Why dont the neck go all the way into the die?

If it did what would hold the bushing in place, so it wouldn't fall through ?????

You should do all your turning on a straight walled section of the case neck before necking it down......
