22PPC fast twist

I'm building a 22PPC bench/varmint rifle. Most info I've found suggests 12 & 14 twist barrels for up to 52grn bullets, my question is has anyone used a fast 6 twist for heavy 62-80 grain bullets. Most shots will be under 250 yards.

6 twist for 62-80g bullets at 250 yds and under? This makes no sense at all! I have shot a number of 12-14 twists and one 9 twist. An 8 Twist should suffice.

All you need is an 8. I shoot a 22 LBC like a big 22 PPC and mine works fine. BTW the new 22 ARC is identical to the 22 LBC.

I used an 8 twist shooting it XTC for several years. 69 to 80 gr out to 600 yards.

I don’t know if you saw my thread with a 7.5 twist 22 PPC shooting 90gn Sierras, but it might give you some ideas:

22 PPC and 222 for 1000yd BR

I have two barrels coming, one for each of my Bordens, that I am going to be experimenting with this year. One is a 22 PPC and the other is a 222. Both are being throated out to 0.100" to get this kind of a seating depth for the 90 SMK: Left to Right: 22BR, 22PPC, 90SMK, 222 all at a "touch"...

The risk with using a 22 with a 6 or 7 twist barrel is blowing up bullets by spinning them too fast. By the time you drop down to an 8 twist, the risk is almost entirely mitigated.
