22LR shot shells

You could always shoot .22 mag shot shells. You would have to do a little machining first or get one of those revolvers (frontier I think). Cheap O for about $150. Might do the job.

My experience has always been not more than 3-4 feet on thin skinned critters with LR shot. I usually use them on cornered rodents that I want to dispatch. Anything beyond that, I'll echo regular LR or a good pellet rifle.

At the tender age of 10 I took careful aim at a medium size corn crib rat at about 5 long steps and pulled the trigger on one of those 22 shot rounds. He flinched a bit and ran back under the bin. Daddy was afraid I'd shoot a hole in his corn bin with regular bullets. I talked him into issuing me a few regular shorts and they did the trick. Unless they have improved them a ton over the last 50 years, I wouldn't bother with the shot cartridges.

mike venturo wrote an article on shot loads for handguns years ago, he tested the effectiveness by shooting potatoes, reasoning that they were about the same size and toughness. What he found was that most purchased shot loads were loaded with #9 shot and didn't do much. He found that the 22 loads were loaded with #12 dust shot and were actually more lethal than the larger calibers. He got ahold of some #12 shot and loaded up some larger centerfire rounds and stated that he was decimating potatoes with them. He stated that the next rattler he killed with them didn't fair much better either.

IN my own experience I found that when I used shot capsules they tended to pattern better than the old gas check loads I made. However I did get the gas check loads to do better and not lead so badly if my made a mylar shot wrap like you found in shotshells. THis was all with #9 shot btw. I never did get ahold of #12 shot to try mikes suggestion.

I have used the Winchester shot shells in my cz bolt gun on snakes with marginal success. On small game however they don't seem to even piss them off after about 10 ft . Had a large opossum getting into the trash can on my patio shot him in the head at less than a foot and he just ran off and was back at it in 3 nights. Used a lr on him the second time and that done him in . When I inspected him later all the shot shell done was shoot about half way through the skin.
I don't think the shot shells will cycle through a 10/22.

Thanks again for the help. I do have a brick of 22mag shot shells, but no weapon to use it in.

I guess you could always get hold of an old clunker 22 and ream out the rifling. Just need to find the right diameter reamer.

I had peacocks in the yard crapping all over and the kids got peacock crap on their shoes. The wife says get rid of the peacocks. 8 to 10 feet they would just flinch a little and after a few shots walk off. Took a long shot at a 15 yds, killed a big hen graveyard dead. Neighbor would have been irate if he had found out.

Super Colibri excel on raccoon's and squirrels for almost silent work. Never shot a armadillo so I don't know what kind of fire power it takes for one. They will not cycle a 10/22 but then again I'm not sure shot loads will either.
