22lr pistols - update thread after research

1. Volquartsen Scorpion
2. S&W Victory Performace Center
3. S&W MODEL 41
4. Ruger frame with volquartsen OR tactical solutions barrel/slide and tandam cross parts.

Ive narrowed it down to 3 set ups for me, no particular order. The model 41 is nice, but not suppressor compatable, so its not an option, but I included it in the list becase its probably one of the best 22lr pistols made... just in case anyone else is interested.

Anyone with experience please chime in.

Just a note from I guy who's been there. I bought a Vol Scorpion Battleworn pistol and it was great. At the time I also had a MK 4 2245. I put a Vol trigger kit and TK Compensator and it shoots just as good. I still have IT.

OK, I'm going to throw you two oddball and/or interesting options, depending on your point of view. If you're looking for a higher-end .22LR with threading you can do:

-Model 41 with a Clark Custom barrel:
https://clarkcustomguns.com/product/clark-sw-41-match-barrel/
I have one of these for matches, and it's really, really nice.

-Marvel/Nelson fixed-barrel 22 conversion on a 1911 lower:
https://www.nelsoncustomguns.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=68
I have two of these, one with a red dot and one with iron sights, and they are as accurate as the Model 41 due to their design.

A little pricey, but I'm very happy with these. Both are match-grade stuff and I don't think I will outgrow them.

I’ve had three Marvel Precision Unit 1 conversion units I shot in bullseye matches.

The test targets and my experience shows they shoot like rifles.

They all out shoot my Smith 41.

A Marvel or Nelson and a 2 lb roll trigger is as good as pistol shootin gets.

I did soup up a Ruger MKIII with Volquartsen parts that shoots as good, maybe a little better than my 41.

I guess if I was going to be a contract hit man I would want a .22 with a suppressor, but with sub-sonic rounds I don't have a noise issue.

It is suppressor compatible. I have two. Accurate ordnance did both of them.

I really want a Vq upper to go on my old MKII frame. It already had Vq guts.

Agree on the Marvel conversions. They are incredibly accurate. Sold my Gold Cup, kept the Marvel.

My 22rf pistols are for Steel Challenge, so factor that in.

I got a VQ frame, VQ trigger w/ TacSol upper (for a Ruger Mk 3 gun) and the thing is amazing. I added the Majestic Speed Strip kit and its "fixes" Bill Ruger's incredibly stupid design so that you can remove the upper , clean and re-install without risking locking up the entire gun. The gun is compelely reliable and very accurate. Added a red dot and made it very fast.

I also got a S & W Victory Performance Center that I Tandemized and its as good the the MK3.

In talking with my local dealer, he recommended against the VQ Skorpion as it can be finicky with ammo. Take that for one man's opinion.

If you plan to shoot bullseye, then I would buy a Pardini. Others in that league are Feinwerbau, Walther, Morini and Hamerlii. Those reworked Rugers that look like space guns are just cheap glitz.

I'll agree with that, and another few you might add to the list:
Baikal 12H Mode 35M, Des 69 Unique, Benelli MP90, FAS 602.

An older High Standard, (before they were sold) would be a good choice also, especially if it were reworked by guys like Jim Clark.

High Standard was sold a couple of times. They were originally in Hamden, CT and were the best IMO. Then they moved to East Hartford, CT and quality suffered. The company was then sold to another in Texax, I think. They were good pistols, but today, there are better choices.

I have the Benelli 90, a few Model 41's and Ruger MK 1, 2, and 3, and a few other "real" target pistols. All have been modified to varying degrees. There is a big jump in levels of target pistols as it relates to cost. The Rugers are like $600.00 the 41's around $1,000, Benelli $1,300 and so on up the ladder. They go WAY up from there. In the price range of what you are looking at - I'd buy a used Ruger Mark II or MkIII Target model, install a volquartson trigger and springs. It will probably shoot as good as guns costing twice as much, including the Volquartson. The Volquartson, Benelli and Model 41's don't have the mass the heavier and barrel-forward Rugers do. It makes them a bit more difficult to master (everything else being equal), though they are also great guns. Oftentimes, I have shot the Rugers, Model 41's and my Benelli all in the same range day. We used to have "stock" pistol matches and those are what I would take. I think the Benelli is the sexiest, the Model 41 the best made, and the Ruger as good a shooter (with trigger and spring modification easily performed).

My High Standard Victor is a Hamden made model and it shoots great. I only worry about parts. Here in New York you can not own a handgun with a magazine forward of the trigger guard, so that ruled out a few, but I ended up adding a FWB AW94 and a Model 41 as my .22 Bullseye Guns.

I have a Ruger MK lll hunter. Some minor upgrades, extractor, trigger time with a stone. Very happy with accuracy. Ran a rim fire challenge with it this weekend with no failures. Couldn’t say that with other guns in our squad.
