22LR Benchmart barrels ?

Tim, If I am not mistaken Bill Myers helped with the development of the 2G benchmarks. he worked with BM.
but what was posted in regard to 10/22 barrels being the first to be taper lapped is not correct they were not the first taper lapped barrels.

Well, I don’t know about development, he did tell Ron what he wanted.
When the Hall sporter actions came out Bill made me one using a BM 2gr @17 3/4” twist. Gun shot good but unfortunately he used some fancy west coast tiger maple and the damn thing took on 6 oz. of moisture in one year and the barrel channel warped
They somewhat came out of favor when they were turning them out with as much as 5 tenths of taper and some of them@ .215” in the bore.
I still used a couple but my guy lapped some taper out

Tim, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Bill start with an outfit called "Bison Barrels" in developing the 2-groove?
And, later on BM started producing them with some input from Bill?
I think I have some info on this somewhere on my hard drive but didn't take the time to search for it.

Quite possible, I seem to recall the “Bison” deal, but that was before I got to know Bill well. I seem to recall his primary contribution was suggesting his ideal land/ groove ratio. But no doubt, he built a lot of sporters with them, initially on Sakos then big time when Alan Hall came with sporter actions, they were good buddies. He did several on Ans 54’s but those were harder to come by for the earlier versions
I would say that was about the time that everybody was going nuts about 2 grooves and lots of shooters were already playing with 3’s. Several guys were pushing for 2’s about the same time. Chet Amick, for instance, was less enamored with them and felt the 3’s were ideal…..easier the chamber well and held the wind well.
All that popularity ultimately faded for, IMO, 2 big reasons. Guys realized they could be tough to get a good chamber( Eck was among the first to use a boring bar ), and lots of guys felt they did not hold up in cold weather although I always felt that was an individual barrel deal. I slugged some that were simply less than round in the bore so, when cooler, lobbing an oblong slug down range.
