.22LR Barrel break in?

Does a new rimfire barrel need to be broken in like a center fire barrel? If so, what is the proper way to do it?
Thanks,
Gary.

The pure lead in a 22 RF round will not do much to smooth out the tooling marks, and thats the usual reason folks break in a CF barrel.....

i certainly would clean the barrel on a new piece...

like Preacher said the reason to break-in C F ...

as i think about it an never gave much though.. why wouldn't there be tool marks in a new 22lr barrel... ?
maybe a good rub-down with JB... but then how would you know if it actually did anything ?

I would 1st clean it good with Kroil, then JB it really thouroughly, especially in the throat/lead area. Shoot it until it seems to lose accuracy, that could be 5 rounds or 500, then clean it again, and shoot it until it loses accuracy. If the number of rounds between cleanings is not satisfactory for practical use, keep cleaning with Kroil & JB for a few more cycles, and if things don't improve a lot, have the barrel scoped & maybe slugged. If it won't shoot, but looks OK from chamber all the way through the crown & slugs OK, you just got a bum barrel probably. With RF, it's hard to say sometimes.
