22cal bullet for deer

A friend wants me to load up a 223 wssm for his kid to shoot a deer with. What would be some of the best bullet options?
Thanks
Huntall

I personally use 75grto amax in my 22/243 with great results. Ive killed seer at 300yds dead in their tracks. In not sure if his gun will stabilize a 75gr. I have also loades 60gr partitions and 65gr game kings in a 22/250 with great results. A friend on mines boy killed his frist seer with factory winchester loads and his 223gun wssm.
Good luck.

60 Nosler partition or the 55 or 65 Sierra GAMEKING or Barnes 55 or 62 TTSX or if you can find some the Winchester 64 gr. power point which is what factory ammo is loaded with. I have some of the Win. 64s I got quite a while back from Widner's Reloading but have not gotten around to loaded any. As you know bullet placement is the key.

I load for a friends Abolt 223wssm with a 1-10 twist and that thing has amazing velocity and accuracy with Varget and a Nosler 55BT (3860fps!!).
Anyway's, we both feel that varmint bullet would be a poor choice for our Minn Whitetail.

I would consider the Nosler 60grn Partition or Sierra has recently come out with a 65grn GameKing. (use 69grn MatchKing data)

The Partition isn't known as a super accurate (as in high score target) bullet but has proven itself on big game.
I'm currently working loads in 223rem with the 65grn GameKing and it's turning into a nice moa field worthy group.

If your rifle has a faster twist you might go heavier but the two I mention would in my opinion be the smallest I'd go for Big game.

Ive used the Barnes 53gr TSX with great success in my 22-250. Never had one run far, never lost a deer and never recovered a bullet. As ranges are kept reasonable and shot placement is king, the bullet will more than do its job. I've harvested over 30 deer with this combination and it works well for me....

Good Luck!!!

John

In our Browning 223 WSSM we use 44.5 ADI 2209 with 62 gr Barnes TSX. All dead one shot to 400m. These include big red stags here in NZ.

The 65 Serria GameKing worked well for my son with a shout charge of Varget in LC brass and Fed 205 primers. Never chronographed, by it worked well on two different whitetails. Minimal recoil even in a light rifle.

Luck, Tim

i have used 75 grn amaxes and berger 70 grn. i know they are suppose to be target bullets but they are explosive on deer. 70 grn berger out of my 22-250 at 3250fps hammers them.
