22BRX?

i'v been shooting a 6BRX in a kreiger 1-8 twist once fired about 800 rounds as a 243 ACKLEY. the case holds almost 36 gr of varget under a 68 gr berger and was shooting in the two's until yesterday. .075in! seating depth adjustments found the SWEET spot. i'm sure somebody has necked this case to .224. the case is short and fat with a small flash hole and 30 degree shoulder and enough neck to hold a 60 to 64 flat base bullet or a boat tail out of the case if the freebore is chosen such. performance should exceed a 22-250 easily and maybe approach the ackley version. brass management would be easily done with 22BRbullet seater and a 6BRbushing neck die. the redding 6BRbody die will push the shoulder back as needed. who has done this? how did it shoot? a 22x47 lapua would be even more awsome. thanks.
if i can see you, i can touch you.BANG!

I built one about 2 years ago and used a 14 twist 27" Lilja. I am shooting 55 grain Ballistic Tips at 3791 fps with no signs of pressure. I use Varget and CCI BR4 primers and Lapua brass. This load is faster than the published velocity of the 22-250AI in my Nosler book. I am sure others are getting more speed but the point is that you can duplicate published velocities with a lot less powder. Dave Kiff helped me spec the reamer. I haven't experimented with heavier bullets. You are dead on with the dies you will use. Just be sure to size the lower .10" of the case or you will get a click at the top of your boltlift. You will love it if you build one. Mine will shoot in the 2's with my limitted shooting skills. Barry the Blue-Eyed Bear has posted his build in the reloading forum if you need more input. Mine is a repeater and it feeds like silk. Good luck.

Howdy !

As regards a .224" calibre wildcat, w/ case capacity in the 6XC - 6X47 range:

I shot a wildcat .35 Rem necked down to .224" cal.
The .22-35 used an easy-to-form 26* shoulder angle,
and an LR primer.

It functioned just fine w/ a stock .308 bolt face, and an M-16 style extractor in a Wichita WBR 1375 action.

Vel from a 24" SS 1-14 5 groove Hart readily exceeded those from comparable length .22-250s; and often rivalled those quoted for a .220 Swift ( 55gr bullets ). My favorite .22-35 loads for 1-14 I biased more towards accuracy first, and practical velocity second.

My favorite load was 41.2gr WW760 and FED LR MAGNUM Match, under Hornady 55SX. I got into the 500yd club w/ 41.6gr VV160 and Fed LR Magnum Match under ( prototype ) Hornady 55 "V"-Max.

The .22-35 also shined in a 28" 1-8 5-groove SS K & P
barrel. My favorite ( accuracy ) load was: 40.5gr AA3100 and FED LR Match; under Hornady 75 "A"-Max.
This combo produced 3,420 fps, while switching primer to FED LR Magnum Match boosted vel to 3,5000 honest; w/ a small opening-up of groups.

First shot I ever took @ 1,000yd was a shot taken at a paper plate taped to of the range you mention do indeed make for a good multi-discipline .224" cal wildcat.

Previous reply meant to say ... " paper plate taped to a large piece of cardboard ".

"Cases of the capacity range you mention, do indeed make for great multi-discipline .224" calibre wildcats "

About 5 years back I built a 22x47 Lapua with a 1-8" twist, hoping to accurately push 80 grain bullets at 3,200 fps. Extremely easy round to load for and extremely accurate, 3,200 fps was no problem. I just used the 6.5 x 47 L series S dies with appropriate bushings to neck down the brass, after firing I just used a Lee custom collet die and this worked great.

If you decide to not use the 22 BRX the 22x47L is a great option with less brass prep.

Once I reached 3,200 fps the accuracy was amazing and I stopped so I do not know what the upper end was, 3,200 fps showed no pressure signs.
