22BRDX?

I'm gearing up for my fall/winter build. I shoot paper, ghogs, tannerite, fruit and rocks. I am very particular about my guns and handloading. I love everything about the 6mm BR cartridges... Two 6BRs, three 22 BRs, one 6BRX, and a 22 BRX. I am looking at the 22 BRDX, as it's neck is longer than the 22BRX. I have a ton of 63 cheeks, some 60 and 65 JLK LD bullets, 60 and 64 bergers. I shoot everything into the lands, so freebore is my biggest concern. I chose too much for the 22BRX and land erosion eventually had me seating everything way out. I want speed since we always have wind and varmints don't always line up directly up or downwind. Any suggestions on freebore? I believe I could have the reamer made with none and still keep the flat based bullets off donutville. All advice would be appreciated, even CatShooter's.

I didn't want to go into the 22BRX as it was a disaster from the start. Custom barrel that was a copper magnet! Reamer freebore longer than stated. 800 rounds and lands looked like a dry creekbed. Shot great one day and scattergun the next. I spent so much time trying to get something to shoot that I gave up. I know the 22BRDX will eat a barrel also if shot hot and a lot, but I expect I can find a good load early and enjoy another tack driver.

I had a .125" free bore on my 22 Dasher shooting both 75's and 80's. Shoots great but it doesn't give you a lot of room to chase the lands. I have since purchased a reamer w/ .100" free bore. Haven't used it yet but will soon. Should work perfectly seating the VLD's in the lands about .020". What free bore is your 22 BRX?

I could see .100" being a little long for the bullets you stated. Around .060" would likely be a better option.

However, since you have all the BRX stuff and that reamer I would build an 8 twist and shoot the 75 or 80 grain VLDs. Problem solved.....

Time fly's when you are having fun..I spent the winter working up loads for my 22 BRDX. Reamer was JGS with no freebore and the 63 cheeks use almost the entire neck when .023 into the lands. I like this as I can move the bullet as the lands receed. Tried several powders from LT 32 to n540 and found the burn rate it likes. Varget, 34 gr and it shoots in the low 2s and occ in the ones. Velocity is 3600 fps! N133, 8208 XBR, and h4895 all shot well but varget was most consistent. Brass takes a beating at this speed and I enlarged many primer pockets at speeds above 3655. I have annealed the brass after each firing and this seems to be beneficial. 450 firings and there is some barrel erosion at the 45° bevel at the beginning of the bore. The lands look good but some thinning is there. This will be my new ghog slayer, so it should last quite some time. Not as easy to tune as the 22 BR but it really likes varget with the 63s, and 3600 fps can't be had with the 22 BR. Now, ghogs beware!
