22BRdies

I have the chance of a .22br and was wondering what dies i would need to case form as i already have 6BR dies could i utilise the 6BR dies and save some£££.
thanks garyw

What type of 6 BR dies do you have now?
I've got a Forster Bushing Bump Die for my 6 BR and I got a set of bushings to do the 22 BR necks and it works slick! One die does it all. :D

norcal,
i have the redding s-type dies match for the 6br a pal has the forster dies for his .22br but they are not the bushing type.i was reading the .22 info on here and it reccomends the redding full lenght die then use the bushing die,i suppose i would just have to buy the .22 bushing and drop it in my 6br die.any things to avoid when necking down to .22br from 6br.
thanks garyw

Already having 6BR dies, thought I could get by, by only changing bushings, but badly crushed the neck of a new Lapua 6BR,ouch that hurt $$$). Then obtained a standard 22BR full length sizing die for the initial sizeing down, and use the neck bushing for all loadings after that. Have been using the same Forster Ultra micrometer benchrest seater w/o any seating problems, so the only additional purchases were .249',.248' & .247' bushings and the Std. FL sizing die. Easy 'transition', and an excellent cartridge.

Like Nor Cal Mikie was saying, if you already had the 6BR Forester bushing neck bump die, all you need is a bushing for 22 cal, it fits right in. This is not a FL sizing die, it doesn't touch the case body. But it will bump the shoulder back to what ever you have it set to automatically, if it needs it.

Then what he and I do is, use a Redding body only die, set to only move the case in to .001 less than the chamber, if it needs it. So you get buy with only two dies and can do both 6BR and 22BR, bump shoulders, and size case bodies. And keep a tight fitting case and case headspace.

There are other way to do this, and someone may chime in.
But this uses the lest number of dies for two calibers, and will not move brass around unnessacarily every time you reload it, like a FL sizing die does. Rather only when it needs it, and then only the minimum amount. This makes the brass last longer. At least we think so.
