22br

I just got my first 22br. I found a remington 40x in 22br near mint. I dont know what the twist is. How schould I start out. I do own 2 6mmbrs. This is a 40xbr with a walnut stock it is about 20 years old any one know its worth?

Many variations of the centerfire 40X, and I see prices from a low of $325 to a high of around $1600. Check out "The Blue Book of Gun Values", by S.P. Fjestad.

If you already have 6br brass, get a 22br die set and run a few thru to try it out. Most, if not all, were 12 or 14 twist back then, run a tight patch through to double check. If in decent shape, you'll love the accuracy. Good luck,Tom.

passenthru, I would recommend getting a cerrosafe casting made of the chamber of your newly acquired 40X. Either you or your gunsmith can do that. Then you will know what the chamber length and what length to trim your cases if need be. If that gun is truly 20 years old, the new 6BR cases may be too long. Some of the early guns were chambered for a maximum case length of 1.520". Just be cautious and careful. You're gonna love that cartridge.
