22BR with 95gr SMK's?

Anybody try this? If so what twist are you running and how is performance?

I've been running them in my 224 Valkyrie with great results. I know a couple people who have tried them in fast rounds above 3000fps and didn't have positive results. I'm thinking maybe 22BR being more moderate may work well and give reasonable barrel life.

How fast are you pushing them in the V?

I did some testing in my F-TR rifle and got them up to 2800. Groups weren't bad. 30" 1:7

I've been wanting to build a faster caliber (22BR, 22 Creedmoor, 22 Grendel) specifically to push the 95s, but haven't found any smith with an appropriate reamer.
 
I shot them this spring at about 3000 fps with a 7 twist. The groups were good but not great. They really wanted to do something but I would get a flier on nearly every 5 shot group. I need the flexibility of more velocity, or more twist, to properly tune that bullet I suspect. At 3k I was maxed out and I would guess that if you run 26" or less in your 22BR you will not get to 3000 without really hammering the pressure. Due to the limited velocity (unless you run 30") of the 22BR you would be better served with the 88 eld, 90 smk, 90 vld.
I have a new Rock Creek 7 twist in queue for next spring to chambsr in 22-243AI that should allow me to run them from 3000-3200 fps easily and find the sweet spot. I am trying to scrape up money for the dies and reamer now so don't hold your breath on a report. Not much out there on this bullet yet, especially as it pertains to speeds above 3k.

My load is only 2450 with Varget but I had them to nearly 2700 with power pro 2000. I settled on Varget because the ES/SD was nowhere near as good and the power pro was really nasty in the gun. It's putting them through the same hole for the most part with ES's of 5-6 on new Starline brass, that's worth sacrificing some velocity IMO.

If I have a 22BR done to shoot them I'll just send a couple dummy rounds to JGS and have my own reamer made.
 
I'll have to measure one. I shot some in my new 224 Valkyrie that's a 7 twist and I'm getting some flyers with it at 100 yards. I'd say 20% overall. They're going slow too but I'm thinking 6.5-6.7T is definitely ideal unless they're going very fast. If .3" twist difference between these two barrels at the same velocity is effecting stability at 100 yards I'm sure there's probably going to be some adverse effects down range even if they will group at 100.

I think I'll get a 6.5T to do a 22BR just to be safe.
 
I'm going to try them in a 1:6" with a 22 Dasher. Hoping they will be comfortable around 3000-3100. 1:6" at 1500ft and 3000fps puts stability at 1.99 but these things are so long I think they will need it.
 
Seems to me you don't really get a benefit out of a 22BR running a 95gr bullet compared with a 6BR running a 103-105gr bullet with a lot less work. Slow twist 6BR with 60-80 grainers is fun combo too. I ran numbers on 22BR and never could figure out the appeal unless you can get them cooking at +3400. I would keep it simple, but I'm not an adventurous guy.

To my knowledge all of the 105's are under .550 G1 BC, most being well under. The 95gr SMK being .600 G1 BC (if it holds up) is quite a bit higher and 10 grains less means even less recoil even if it is only 10 grains. The main benefit I see if the BC though.

Where are ya getting` the 6 twist from???
 
Hawk Hill, Hart, Bartlein all will make 6tw. If going 22BR or Dasher I would suggest staying 6.5tw or slower. 7tw has stabalized the 95's for me and bc is confirmed using .312 G7 at 3050fps. 32gr varget
