22BR pistol

I purchased a 22BR pistol with a 16" barrel and need some help. I worked on load development this week end and am a little unconfortable with the load that shoots great. I started with a 28 grains of H322 and finnished with 33 Grains and 3550 fps. The primer shows createring but not flattened. I am using winchester primers. I know this is a lot of 322 and wondered if there are any pistol shooters with experience with this cartridge. Thanks

What bullet and what grain bullet??? The velocity sounds about right to me for a pistol . Up might could try a harder cup primer like the CCI or the Wolf Mag . Or you could just back down just a little at a time till the pressure drops ..

What action? XP 100? I would check the firing pin hole size. My 22 BR was doing the same thing and I had the hole bushed by GreTan and the problem went away. Nice looking primers and way below book, but had the material pushed back into an oversized hole. Took less than a week to get it back and was $45, I do beleive it is a little higher now.

I am shooting 52 grain Knight bullets and 50 grain Ballistic tip. I can live with the cratering I was unsure.

It was 70 degrees Sunday when I worked up the load. How much temperature does it take to makes a diference in your opinion.

Most of the rest of the country it is still winter. I know when I do my load stuff here in WI for my Prarie dog trip in SD it takes about 1g less in SD. It is 70 here in WI and shooting in SD is about 85 or so.

Step back and look at what you have here. A 22BR with a 16" barrel and you're getting 3550? That is GREAT! The 22BR is a wonderful round, and I've shot it in an XP for a long time. You are doing fine, back off a little bit and keep going. If you want more speed, use a lighter bullet. What you are getting now is way better than a lot of 22 caliber rifles!
