22BR or 6BR varmint gun?

Thanks Stacy! I'm getting a barrel here in a week or two. But I don't know when I will have time to play with it. I actually think I'm gonna chamber a barrel for my Bat lrbr gun.

I have two 6BR varmint rifles. One is an 8 twist and the other is a 14. It's hard to decide which one to use. I shoot Bart's Headhunters in the 14 and in the 8 twist I use a bunch of different bullets. For varmint hunting with the 8, I use 80gr Fowlers.

But let me put a thought in your head. How about a 30 BR as a varmint gun? I have one with a 22 inch barrel and it shoots about as good as a PPC. I use Berger 115gr danzak coated bullets pushed along by 34grs of H4198 and a Fed205 primer with a mv of 2900fps. It is scary how accurate these things are. They do a job on varmints out to 300 yards.

You will never wear out a 30BR barrel with a 17 twist. The one I have had over 6000 rounds on it when I bought it. We cut the threads off and re-chambered it for a 700 Remington. It just keeps on shooting.

Sorry to hijack your post, but this is "food for thought".

Larry,

I did consider a 30BR at one point.

I was consolidating my inventory, for a while, I was down to just .224 and 6mm cartridges.

Somehow since then two .20`s a .17 and a 6.5 have slipped in........ :o

I truly am trying to have more components on the shelf with less inventory......

No hijack here, your input is always welcome with me.

Take care,

Phil.
