22BR newbie looking for tips

I am about to pickup my 22BR and was trying to load up some test cases. I saw the article about necking down and tried to follow it but I get the doughnut at the bottom and the tip of the neck flares slightly. also the diagram of the 22BR is slightly shorter than the 6BR is this correct? this is a varmint gun so I am running a no turn neck .250". Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but a .250 neck is a tight-neck chamber. The outside diameter of a loaded round cannot be greater that .248" The diameter of a loaded, unturned neck is right at .250" You will need to turn the outside of the necks to achieve a clearance of .001" on all sides.

I've got one and another one in the works. Both are/will be chambered,by Preacher) with a .254 no turn neck reamer. Never had a problem necking down. One pass in a Redding 22 BR full length die and it's done. After they're fired they get sized with a Forster Bushing Bump Die.
You'll need to turn your necks with a .250 reamer.:,

A .250" nk. 22 BR will require neck turning. A case wall thickness of .012" works good and gives you clearance for using a bullet with a large pressure ring. If you are using a bushing die to neck down a bulge will appear at the base of the neck but when I turn the necks part of the bulge will be cut away and the rest will blow out when you fireform the case. Using a non-bushing 22 BR FL die may eliminate the bulge if it bothers you. I have noticed the belling of the mouth of 20 BR necks but not 22 BR.
