22BR FB

I'm about to order a 22BR reamer and can't decide which bullet to throat it for.
What do you recommend for heavies and 7 and 8tw barrels? Can one length fb work for most heavy bullets or do I need to suck it up and get a throating reamer?

I called Dave, he was not available, I'm sure he's swamped.

What FB and bullets are you using?

Thanks, Jim

Build a "dummy round" with the bullet of your choice seated where you want it. Send it to PT&G and have the reamer cut to those specs.
I prefer to have as much bullet /contact in the neck as I can get. Bullet seasted to the shoulder neck junction for starters. The throat can and will only get longer. And sometimes sooner than you expext. Nothing worse than working up a load, shooting your favorite bullet and before too long you end up starting all over again because the throat got too long for your prefered seating depth.
Start off with the bullet seated at the shoulder neck junction and jammed into the lands.
Or better yet, keep trying PT&G, tell them what you want and with what bullet. They more than likely have those reamer specs. That's their job. JMHO, Mike.

My .060 FB reamer is used for the 75 grain A-max...
My .030 FB reamer is used for the 40 grain Ballistic tips..

Does this mean you can only shoot those particular bullets in the rifle?

No sir, it surely don't mean that...
Thats just the way I had the 2 reamers set up..
Of course the .030 will not take the long 75 grain A-max unless you have the bullet way into the case.
Same with the .060, it will take the 40 grain BTs, but you'll not have hardly any bullet in the case...
Lots of other weight bullet will work with these 2 reamers, but I set them up for a particular bullet.
The .060 is used in a 8 twist, and the .030 is used in a 16 twist...

That's why I suggested getting the freebore set to the bullet you plan to shoot. Short freebore can always be made longer but with the long throat. you can't go shorter without a setback to the chamber. It's called planning ahead. ;)

I'm trying to see if I can get away with a fb dimension that allows me to shoot 77smk thru 90smk while staying clear of the shoulder junction.

I will have to get hold of all the bullets I'm interested in to see the requirements. I was just looking to see what others were doing with their bullets (thanks Preacher). This might shed some light on what I need to do for different bullets.

I spoke to Dave today and I am thinking deeper on what to get. I'll likely just end up with a minimum spec reamer and a throater.

These conversations are one of my ways of planning ahead. ;)
