22BR brass length?

I am having a new rifle built in .22 BR Norma and am trying to get my new lapua brass ready. What length do yall trim your 22BR Norma brass to? I currently have a 6MM BBR Norma that I trim my brass to 1.555". I came up with this from a drawing on this site that shows the 6MM BR Norma brass length to be 1.5598". The diagram on this site shows the 22 BR brass length to be 1.520". Thats a .0398" difference between the two calibers, I figured they would share the same brass length dimensions.

Depending on your chamber. I have a Cooper in 22BR that has a long chamber. I'd have to make brass from 308 Palma to fill it.
I used Lapua brass also, did not trim anything.

Originally br's were 1.520" with the advent of the 6BR Norma 1.560" became the norm.I have an older 20 BR that is 1.520" built by Greg Tannel.I would talk to the smith and make sure you get the Norma version and use Lapua brass, don't trim if you don't have to.Sounds like a fun project, have fun.
Matt

I believe it all depends upon what you spec your reamer at. You can make it what you want. Over the last couple years the guys are changing Dasher reamer lengths. Some make them shorter and some make them longer. The important dimensions are the body so you get proper resize and no bolt click. Matt

The difference is in the neck
This is a great question and topic for anyone interested in possibly owning a 22BR. I wanted to chime in to provide additional perspective.
The older, and original, 22BR Remington child calls for chamber dimensions of 1.520". With the "original" 22 BR Remington, and the "original" 6BR Remington, the 1.520" length is the spec.
Today, the 6BR Norma has become relevant to the competitive long-range (300 meters and beyond) target shooting community. The difference in the length is in the case neck, between the current 6mmBR Norma spec and the original Remington 6BR spec -' with the former being the longer. The remainder of the case dimensions are practically the same for all practical purposes.
Enter stage left: the highly accurate and fast-footed 22BR Remington. Since there is no "official" 22BR Norma spec, the original 22 BR Remington spec currently holds "true". However, today, an attentive gunsmith and shooter wanting to create a new rifle build would want to spec a "modified" 22BR Remington chamber so that the length would/could/should be adequate to manage the1.560" length, so that the shooter could use, with ease -- without trimming new brass, the readily available 6mmBR Norma/6BR Remington brass -- whether manufactured by Norma, Lapua, and dare I say Remington, too. (I use all three brands -- successfully -- between the 6BRs and 22BR that I have)
I have the 22BR in an older Rem 40x, and I have to trim, trim, and trim today's quality 6BR brass down to fit the original chamber length of 1.520". The best thing I could do is have Mr. Gun Smith ream the chamber neck, in the Remington 40x 22 BR, another 0.040" deeper. However, I never like leaving my toys anywhere overnight if I don't need to.
When buying older 22BRs, and likely some new ones, assume you will have the shorter 1.520" oriented chamber -' especially if the barrel is slow twisted for lighter bullets in the 40-55gr weight class. Again, this is a great subject, and is not clearly presented many places.
Stay safe, and trim the cases properly so you can avoid the costly issues associated with excess pressure. The 22BR is a very hard one to part with once you have one.

The "best" thing to do is get the actual "measured" length of your chamber. Sinclair has plugs for doing this and they work like a charm!!
Most later 6 and 22 BR chamber will be cut to Lapua measurements.
What it boils down to is you can trim your brass to the length you prefer once you know the "measured" length.
Max trim length for the 6 BR with the Lapua brass is 1.560". My "actual" measured chamber length is 1.580".
That gives me lots of room before I have to think about trimming my brass. My 22 BR chamber is the same length as my 6 BR.
I also use Forster Precision Bushing Bump Dies to bump the shoulders. With these dies, my brass doesn't grow and after 30+ firings, no trimming needed and still going strong. YMMV, Mike.

My Cooper chamber is 1.590", so I don't have to trim either., But I did square up the mouths on the brass after forming.

Nope, not with the small stuff. I can touch them with the 53 v-max, 55-64 Berger's. The 12 twist limits selection.. leave it to Cooper custom shop  Will shoot better than the supplied test target with the V-Max's @ 200yds.
