22BR Barrel Twist?

Hi new to the forum, On a 22BR how do you pick the twist rate.Like a 8 but is there a disadvance to a fast twist?

Can you shoot 75& 80's as well as 50& 60? and does twist rate effect barrel life? Thanks for any help Walt

Walt,

Go to the Berger Bullet website and you can find twist rate recommendations there for their bullets. A VLD bullet of a given caliber and weight will generally require a faster twist rate than say a Sierra MatchKing bullet of the same weight and caliber. Thus the Berger recommendations should be a good guide for the bullet you are interested in. Berger also shows twist rates for their other styles of bullets including flat base.

The twist rate should have little to no effect on barrel life.

A twist rate choosen for an 80 grain .224 caliber bullet should work fine for thelighter bullets you mentioned.

Henry
