225s in a .300 Win Mag?

I see load data for 225 grain bullets for the Norma Mag and the PRS but not the Win Mag. Can the lowly Win Mag push a 225 fast enough to be worth the effort of going heavier than 208s to 215s?

I have run the 230gr Berger in my 30” 300WM barrel. Results on paper were good to a mile, but disappointing on game at 990yrds.
Bullets did not expand for me beyond 800yrds.
I finished one box shooting gongs, rocks and F-Class targets and sold the other 4 boxes and went back to my 215’s.
The RDF’s by Nosler actually shot better than the 230’s in my rifle.

Cheers.

Sure I shoot the 225 ELD with 80gr of Retumbo at 2800 fps with a 26in barrel. Shot at a 10 by 10 in target. Went 3 for 5 at a mile this pass fall at Thunder Valley. Was very happy to see that happen.

Turns out my Rem 700 300WM really likes the 225 BTHP's. Unfourtunly Hornady has discontinued them and when they're gone they're gone. The good news is they are cheap now I can buy enough to last me for some time.

225 ELDMs loaded with 75 gr. H1000 with Norma brass, Fed 215 out of a 26in Bart. 1-8.5twit 2822 fps.
208 ELDMs 74 gr. 7828 out of the same rifle at 2959 fps.

if you have any questions hit me up.

A 300 win will shoot a 225 with ease. I shoot 215's, 220's and 230's in mine. My current 215 and 220's load with a 26" barrel is 2810; 7.8 and 7.9 mils at 1000. H1000, CCI250's, Swiss T brass.

As far as the 300 Norma Mag goes... It's a great round but anyone can neck down a case and dump more powder in and get it to go faster, generally speaking... But the 300PRC will do the same with less powder from the loads I have seen. The only reason I still shoot my 300WM is do to availability and even though I love the number that PRC makes I don't know if I would be able to tell ~200fps
difference between the two. At least for the way I shoot and for what I do. If I see the 300PRC everywhere next year then I will most likely jump on the band wagon but for now and as crazy as this country is getting availability in #1. IMO

Stuff like this makes me appreciate my 6.5's more. I guess some 225 .30 caliber military application might involve shooting a Toyota or something similar. My single shot (no magazine) .300 WM uses ammo 3.5 inches long with 200 ELDX & H1000, 10 twist, and is my long range big beast hunting rifle - barrel life not so good, recoil up there, & expensive to shoot.

I do use the rifle for hunting so maybe I will give the 212 eld-x a try.
The rifle is a savage long action, mcmillan game scout stock with cdi bottom metal, benchmark barrel with brake, and 6-24x50 sightron scope. It shoots the 215 berger in the .3-.4 range I just wanted to try something different and the 225 eld-m has a great BC, also they are less expensive for shooting steel and rocks.
