224 Valkyrie to 22 ARC

What would it take to swap my Savage MSR15 224 Valk to a 22 ARC? Rebarrel, new bolt? Or is it no way possible? Sell and buy ARC?

Good luck selling the Valkyrie stuff. Who wants to play with a cartridge that doesn’t shoot
Yeah I’m starting to realize that. What’s the reason it doesn’t shoot well? I have looked into as why, just know it ain’t what it was cracked up to be

No one seems to know why it stinks. I’ve asked WOA, Compass Lake, and others. The general consensus is a shrug of the shoulders. I’ve heard some guys with bolt guns have had some success, but the only success I had (I.e. better than MOA accuracy) was with a4350 at a dazzling speed of 2480fps. Even with a 90, that just didn’t fight better than an 80 at 3000. Lord knows I tried, with two uppers and close to 2k rounds. I ran it XTC and shot in the upper 770’s and low 780’s but….. it gunked up on me at the state Championship, and that was it.

That was the way I went…I built a bolt action rifle and have great accuracy out from it with Sierra 90 gr. and Hornady 88 gr. It is a Savage Target action with a Shilen barrel.

Please elaborate!! What velocity, what powder, etc. I’d love a bolt gun for XTC that ran a Valkyrie, as The downside to my 22 Creedmoor is barrel life and powder use. I was just so disillusioned with my AR attempts I threw it away

On the Sierra 90s I’m running CFE223 at of velocity of 2550, that is where the accuracy was. On the Hornady 88’s, I’m running Varget at 2655. both shoot .25 or less MOA easily and consistently. Went strictly by Sierra and Hornaday Reloading manuals and running near or at max for each load. Barrel has a 6.5 twist.

Curious what your barrel length is. I'm pushing 88's at 2830 in a 30" 223.

I never had any issues with mine, but I dropped the coin for a good 6.5 twist Shilen barrel.
Most of the horror stories I’ve read it always comes back to guys buying the cheapest budget barrel they can find for an AR, then declare the cartridge is junk.

I also have a BSF, cheaper barrel for a light weight walking varmint rig, it will only do about 1 MOA no matter the load. I was okay with that because I knew BSF wasn’t going to produce match grade accuracy from the get go.

Do we have anyone that bought a barrel from a major match barrel manufacturer that would not shoot? Federal also put out some Gold metal ammo that was, well,,,, not Gold metal accuracy the same can be said with the Hornady 88 factory ammo, I have 9 boxes left from a case of that crap.

6.5 twist Shilen group with 25x scope. I’m sure I can’t do 5x5 that small, but it’s a gas gun not a BR rig.
I’m not saying they are a great round like the BR family, but mine have been a far cry from junk. I also think 6.5 twist is required because of the lower velocity of the heavier bullets.
