224 Valkyrie brass

I saw a Savage 224 Valkyrie yesterday were I work that sells guns and I was wondering if there is a Parent case or a way of making brass for this new offering with out buying the Federal cartridges that are $25.00 a box?

Looking at starline it looks like it is next months new casing. They show it but it is not in stock.

They should get in to the 6mm BR brass game.

I ordered Starline Brass about 2 months ago just to get ahead of the game.
So far the most efficient way for me to get brass is to buy the federal AE 75gr tmj rounds at About 55c a round. Even the cheap starline brass was 30ish Cents per piece, and its way less fun to break in your rifle with.. Now if i could just get a quicktrim die custom ordered. haha

Everyone is having issues with 224 Valk brass life. Doesnt matter the brand. As soon as you try to actually take advantage the cartridges extra case capacity to pick up FPS it starts to fail. Most top end loads Ive seen are about 100 FPS faster than the same bullet from a 223.

And accuracy is not something I have been particularly impressed with.

Sounds about right. Not good, when you have no options for good brass.

I’ve been using Starline 224 Valkyrie brass and it’s great stuff.

Are you actually shooting and testing brass or is this all just anecdotal information?

I guess I'm not in that crowd of your 'everyone' since I've been getting very reasonable case life from this batch of Starline Brass. I have been using the same 25 pieces through 6 repetitions of test loads and the primer pockets are still reasonable and the brass resizes nicely. This is from an AR15 platform which are not known to be polite because of the chamber designed for proper semi-auto operation. These are not mid-range loads but top end, high performance loads running 2,900 - 2,950 approximately with 77 grain Sierra TMK bullets from a 20" barrel. No load exceeds the chamber pressure suggested by SAAMI.

This was not the case with Federal brass which I promptly recycled. Like some antsy folks, I bought loaded ammunition from Federal but the brass was less than useful. I'm sticking with Starline.

Once again, this must be anecdotal since several of us who have been testing the cartridge are getting 200-250 FPS over the .223 when loaded with the same bullets.
