.224 Valkyrie Barrel suggestions?

I am building a .224 Valkyrie on an AR platform. I am going with a 6.5T. What would you guys suggest for optimal barrel length?

I'm considering a company I have never used before but the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly good. Does any one have experience with barrels from Bison Armory?

I'm trying to avoid waiting several months for a barrel.

What are your thoughts?

You need a 26in to reach the MV they advertise. I think that is ridiculous. Better to get a 6mm Creedmoor or something in ar 10

Does it matter if i have the extra 200fps if i am not shooting out to 1000yd? The max will be 5-600yd on steel? ( I already have a 6mm Creedmoor I'm building on a R700).

No it won’t really matter that much for non competitive shooting at 600 yds.

24in is where most of the testing is done. I have a 18" on my AR but that is for close range hunting (200 yd or less.) I give up some velocity but welcome the handling. Mine is a 7 twist so if you are looking at the 6.5 you must be set on the 90+ gr bullets

Probably not but on the other hand a 26" AR on a bipod or rest is a perfectly nice shooting rifle.

I would go with John Holliger at White Oak Armament.

What blanks does white oak use for their barrels? Do you happen to know?

With my AR experience, im pretty set on getting a brux kreiger or bartlein, a bat machine barrel extension and having a barrel made by a smith. Cost aint pretty, but most AR barrels out there arent quality when it comes to precision shooting. I hate to be that guy, but I still hold my AR to bolt gun accuracy to a certain point, and have achieved it. Tedious yes, but do able. Aint cheap either.

Most accurate barrel Ive come accross so far has been a Saturn cut rifle barrel, not their mass produced button ones. Im sure the kriegers are good, but they only do 223 I think.

Ive heard very good things about robert whitley (6mmar) uppers, but last time I called them they wouldnt sell just a chambered set up barrel. He has different brand blanks you can upgrade to tho.

WOA uses Wilson or Shilen, but John, the owner, will crank out a Krieger if that is what you want.

Here is a Krieger 6.5 shown on his website

Good to know. I was curious. I wish they would add more reamers to their selection for more options. The usual standard chamberings are so boring. All I saw was 223, 20 practical, 224 valk, and 6.8 i think... no grendel, 20 tac, 300 blk, 30 major, etc etc, unless they just dont have it all listed that ive found..

Give John a call, I am sure he can accommodate your needs.

Id like to wildcat the valk... but brass quality aint there yet.. federal, stareline and hornady are the only ones making brass... hate to build something with only those to choose from..

Are you holding up the project till Lapua or Norma start making brass? Who do you have in mind that you would consider quality?

Lake city doesn’t make the brass for the 6.8? Could neck it down... that’s some of the best brass on the planet
