223ai

Just got a new toy! 26" Bartlien 1-7.5 twist. Barrel is throated to shoot 80 or 90 grain vlds, or sierras. Could use some help with powder , primer etc. If you're have one , I would appreciate it if you shared. I just bought quickload and I am muddling my way thru it. It appears RE17ORH414 may be the ticket, but I'm not proficient with the program yet. It shows the cup pressure to be 55000, that seems a little low? I expected about 62000, but I'm not to smart about those things!!! Any help appreciated! JVON

I have not shot any heavies YET, but it is a great idea to have Gre Tan bush your firing pin hole on your bolt even before you start.

I have 3 of the AI's and they LOVE top end pressure nodes. Use only tough brass, thick cup primers, also.

I am using IMI brass that is tough as nails, LC is just as tough, but the good Lord only knows about quality on LC...it is a crap shoot. Lapua is your best first choice, if you can not find IMI.

Good luck!

My 8tw loves Varget with the A-Max 80. I use the BR4's when I'm standing on anything, they seem to stand up better than the 205M's. SAAMI, I believe, dictates the pressure limits. Many of us surely exceed these and let the rifle tell us what it likes, JMHO. Start low and work up but most of all be safe.

I have a 22" 1:7 223AI; I get 2750fps with 24.9gr Varget and a 90gr VLD, 2950fps with 24.9gr 8208XBR and a 80gr A-MAX (fireformed Lapua brass and a CCI-450).

I'm quite happy with LC brass and agree with everything else said above.
Before I had the bolt bushed I had major, major issues with pierced cups and firing pin binding.
